Electric Vehicles EVs

  • People should either keep their old vehicle or wait for more cost effective EVs. That manufacturers are allowed to use PHEVs toward their carbon credits to avoid developing cost effective EVs is a scandal.

    I fully agree.

But my fictional but believable golf club man won’t wait.

  • That isn't my point. Currently the effective tax on petrol is around 53%. The tax on electricity is 5%.

  • How about when I charge my low use ev from my solar panels? Still 'tax avoiding'?

  • Get a bike you cunts

  • Deffo.. I assume you took advantage of the zero VAT rate on your roof mirror you cad.

  • More tax avoidance through C2W

  • When will someone admit they restructured their BTLs into a Limited Company (main owner an LLP, into a trust in Jersey) and bought a Tesla writing the whole cost off in a year and paying no CT, whilst claiming the company charger allowance and paying minimal P11d.

  • And so what? I don't really see what the problem with that is? Isn't the lower P11D thing an incentive for companies to move to EV cars?
If you need a car, and an EV would save you considerable money each month on fuel, P11D, congestion charge etc, it makes sense to get one.

  • That's my point. The hazy morality around EVs is essentially a cloak for tax avoidance.

  • If there isn't tax on something, buying it and not paying tax isnt avoiding tax or taking advantage.
But I think you know that.

  • You have avoided tax by buying roof mirrors. Virtually all other goods are subject to VAT at 20%. The govt decided to offer a tax waiver to nudge uptake.

Edit to add.. the FIT for roof mirrors is essentially a tax determined by the govt on all electricity consumers. Costs us all about 0.30p/kWh.

  • I'm getting a Tesla through my limited company, and claimed the company charger allowance, and will be paying minimal P11D.
Not considering restructuring my BTLs into a limited company at the moment because I would rather not pay additional stamp duty / capital gains.

  • Tax avoidance is good, tax evasion is bad?

  • Am I avoiding tax buying vegetables or children's clothes? Your argument is facile and ridiculous.

  • I really feel for those that voted for Boris expecting a low tax entrepreneur friendly economy...

  • Do you still fit in children's clothes?

  • You missed out facetious.

  • Not by some margin and some years.

  • Tax avoidance is good, tax evasion is bad?

    Morality alert.

  • Lol at lufgusses favourite tory coming with the knowledge

  • If you think you’re a tax avoiding bastard: I’m one of those new-fashioned economically inactive people that are causing so many economic problems so I pay zero income tax. It’s possible thanks to a recent business asset disposal relief claim.

I don’t have Tesla though, I’m not completely morally bankrupt.

  • I read that too quickly as 'I think you're a tax avoiding bastard'

  • Another owner of a mk1 Leaf here, what we paid in fuel, road tax and repairs for my old Legacy Spec B more than covers the cost of the payments on the Leaf and the payments on a PV array and battery for the house.

Live in Scotland, so public transport is pretty minimal.

Do cycle to work a bit.

Still have a 2006 Outback for long trips witb the family often towing a trailer.

  • That was just in time before entrepreneurs relief is withdrawn. Chapeau...

  • If you're referring to moi (apologies if narcissistic) I've decided to identify as an anarchist this year.
