Royal Mail delivery problems...

  • So I keep losing packages (both normal and signed for) because the postman is useless.

There are quite a lot of addresses/buildings on my postcode because it spans 2 industrial estates, the majority of post is delivered problem free, however I have this ongoing problem that has happened a couple of times now and cost me nearly £300:

    Item ordered from eBay.

    Seller ships RM.

Postman delivers to an address that is not mine/leaves somewhere else/I have no idea what, then registers the tracking as delivered.

I deny receipt of item, RM ‘investigate’ with their driver who obviously is not going to admit he has no idea what happened to it/is incapable of doing their job, and tells them is was delivered to correct address. RM claim I have item and close case.

eBay base their item not received decision on the tracking number which shows as delivered. This cannot be overturned without letter from RM admitting item not delivered. Not possible due to above.

    Does anyone have any ideas?

  • Your problem sounds a little bit like this.

Is there anywhere else you can have stuff delivered to ?

  • Nope, as it is both my residence and workplace.

Guess I can always write to the Girdian and get a refund that way... but it’s not really the same, both the sender and recipient are genuine.

I would prefer a suggestion that will force RM admit they are sh*t/lazy.

  • get a PO box?

  • This is...theft, no?

I would prefer a suggestion that will force RM admit they are sh*t/lazy.

Get a crime number. Go back to RM. I would assume with these goons like all others is that they will try to fob-off cases like this until they realise the claimee is really serious.

  • I've just been through exact same thing with Hermes - ebay wouldn't refund because it was marked as delivered, Hermes don't care/outsource customer service to people designed to make you give up in frustration.
I eventually managed to get a refund by opening a case via Resolver and after a month of frustrating back and forwards emails & threatening small claims court, I managed to eventually escalate it to chief executive (or at least whoever gets stuck with answering their email). At which point they contacted ebay on my behalf, agreed they'd lost it and ebay refunded me.
Can't guarantee this will work, but it's worth a try. I would hope RM would be a bit better than Hermes. In the end if they can't provide a signature for the signed for ones then they can't prove they were delivered so I reckon you've got a strong case.

  • Also having problems with Royal mail right now. Sent someone on here something on the 17th, 1st class signed for. Tracking number says 'we've got it' but hasn't updated since then, parcel still hasn't arrived 12 days later.

The only claim I can make with RM is for a delay (I don't have any proof of value, because it was originally gifted to me) but I can't until 10 working days have passed. As far as I'm concerned, I've had my post stolen by RM.

    Livid.

  • This is the seller's issue not yours. I'd try getting them to sort it out for you.

  • I am the seller (gifter), the parcel I sent to someone hasn't arrived

  • You live in Manor House right? I used to live in Arena, mail was always getting lost! It's a nightmare.

  • Anyone else still getting Xmas cards delivered that were posted in mid December (13th) or is this an SE13 thing?

  • One from the in-laws sent from Welwyn Garden City at the beginning of December arrived here in Gloucestershire yesterday. In-laws visited us for NYE, could have saved the price of a stamp!

  • Three arrived yesterday, two the day before (Bristol)

  • Another card arrives, posted 06/12/22 in Cornwall

  • We got a card through on friday which was posted by my wife's grandma in November (not quite sure when).

  • I sent off £86 worth of stamps to the swap out in November. They are lost somewhere in the system

  • Ah yeah I heard that was happening. The address you send them too makes it a pretty easy target for theft doesn't it?

  • It certainly does. They took my word for what I'd sent in, I had no proof about what I'd enclosed.

I think I've got enough stamps to post myself somewhere now

  • I've got a side hustle selling records, 50% of my 'business' was to mainland Europe pre Brexit. I now sell about 15% to Europe so use the international service less frequently.

I went to my regular little village Post Office today and they told me they'd not been sending parcels to Europe for around a month because they'd been cyber hacked and held hostage by Russia or something or other. I couldn't quite believe it, I've definitely been leaning away from the news a lot recently but I had no idea.

Surely this is quite a big deal, the postal worker said people's businesses were going under because of it.

What's going on in this country?!

  • I saw loads of messages from artists on Bandcamp saying that they were unable to send their international deliveries because of this. I think it is all sorted now isn't it?

  • Absolutely not sorted yet, but it seems they are now getting through the backlog only for certain countries - on reddit some americans are finally getting updates on late shipments. Last time I googled, they are still not accepting international shipments in person at the post offices.

I'm in Portugal and I'm waiting for deliveries from the UK from Dec/Jan that haven't even been scanned into the system yet. Long after the dispute period for a lot of orders but I understand this can affect sellers in the UK in a bad way so I just hope things don't get lost.

I'm also surprised not to see more people talk about this, it's unreal for a country's post to be affected like this and for so long

  • Definitely not sorted, they wouldn't accept my package today.

  • it's unreal for a country's post to be affected like this and for so long

It's not our post though is it, it's a private company.

  • I sent 2 parcels to Ireland via parcel force express on Friday, 2-3 working days delivery. Both tracking codes say
    ‘Delivered
Your parcel was delivered to [different tracking code] on Tuesday 28th March 2023 at 15:30’

That different tracking code then says ‘Your parcel has left our collection depot and will soon be sorted and on its way to our delivery depot.’

    Anyone has this before?
