Our consumption has gone up since lockdown started. We'd do 36g French press every morning, then have coffee in the office. Weekends we'd sometimes make afternoon coffee or buy coffee.
Now I make 58.5g/900ml most mornings to cover morning and afternoon coffee so that's about 1.25-1.5kg/month, so that's 15-18kg/year.

Went to Margate this weekend for my wife's birthday and absolutely loved the fact that most cafes seemed to offer a coffee flight consisting of a single espresso, a piccolo and a batch filter. Curve and Forts both did it and I really enjoyed it!

Not seen that before, what is the correct order to drink in? Espresso before it cools too much, then the Piccolo before it looses texture then the filter at the perfect temp? In terms of tasting though surely starting with the Espresso is a bit counterintuitive...

What are some well recommended decaf beans for some nice Italian-style espresso? Girlfriend advised not to drink caffeine while on antibiotics and I've long liked the idea of some decaf for after dinner espressos... 🤔

The two of us probably go through 2kg in 3 months, so that's about 8kg a year? That's a daily single espresso each in the morning, plus extra rounds at weekends or on WFH days (up to 3 rounds a day).
I'm probably going to have more WFH days from next month and possibly more to condensed hours, so chances that number will go up for 2023...!

That's exactly the order I did it in: Espresso > Piccolo > Filter

Espresso > Piccolo > Filter > Toilet

at 17g roughly a shot and 2 of us using the machine a kg lasts 4 weeks with 1 coffee a day each but we're closer to an average of 2-3 each so we get through about 2kg a month give or take a week or two depending on how often we're both home.

OK I feel better about our consumption now.

I've toyed with the idea of getting an espresso machine many times over the years but I keep coming back to the fact that I actually just really like French press and filter (apparently now called "pour over"?). Good beans, freshly ground (got a Svart something or other), filtered an freshly boiled water and a drop of whole milk. Perfecto.
Currently enjoying lots of Curve roasts as they're local to me. Got some Peruvian hoo-ha on the go at the moment. Very nice.

42g in the filter every day, so 15kg on that alone.

Espresso > Piccolo > Filter > Toilet > Anxiety > Insomnia

That said, I drank too much coffee yesterday and for the first time ever managed to still get a decent sleep by being active and drinking a LOT of water. Seems flushing the caffeine out (or at least watering it down) is a real thing.
Oh and the coffee with milk should always be drunk first. The Italians have got this right.

The fact that coffee pods can have less than 6g of coffee in has blown my mind.

I'm guessing around 8kg a year. I have a mid-morning coffee every day and sometimes a second one in the afternoon. 17g for filter, sometimes 30g if I want a cup and a half on a lazy morning (when we have a special breakfast that justifies a nice coffee). If I'm making a flat white instead then probably closer to 14g.

Explains why the coffees from my Mum's little red Lavazza thingy don't do it for me!
'Up to 7.5g' according to their website. We put 16g in our basket and I thought that was low!

Did you watch the Hoffmann video about caffeine levels in different roasts and brew methods? That blew my mind.

Yellow Bourbon swiss water decaf
Chimney fire decafThe YB is a surprisingly dark looking bean (I say bean rather than dark roast) but gives a really good drink. Works well for me with a finer grind and shorter dose (17g) than for standard beans (19g) with the 25-28s extract time on a commercial machine. YMMV.
At home I just FP/V60 it though, I don't drink caffeine at home. -

12kg a year here, two double espressos in the morning (in the same cup, because I'm lazy) and maybe an extra one on the weekend.

Thanks! I see YB often mentioned as a good source of tasty beans, so will give that a try 🙂
