Wanted: Refugee Donation Bike needs a SS rear wheel

I'm fixing up an old polo bike (originally belonging to @PiQuE - hiya pal!) to donate to a teenage boy on our street who is a Ukrainian refugee.

I've raided my parts bin and I'm just about there with the build but the only rear wheel I have is fucked.

Does anyone have an old / beater SS 700c wheel to donate please? Anything considered.

Won't be available until Wednesday afternoon at the earliest, but we probably have a few at Community Cycleworks and I can bring one to you (if you're in London). Will you need a freewheel with it?

AH, that would be great. yes, I'm in Forest Gate, E7 but could potentially meet somewhere central, if that helps?

As for freewheel, it's a 38t chain ring, so I reckon ideally 15t would give just below 70gi, which would be okay for a run around ... though feel free to correct my maths. If you have one, all the better.

Thanks Amey, I think that's it. I still need to fit the brake levers that I have, but assuming they give enough pull, it should be pretty much there. It's a bit of a frankenbike but as long as it rides, we're good.

I'll check if we have a freewheel that small in the workshop when I check for a wheel, and keep you posted

We have a 14t and 15t freewheel at work.
15t is 66.54gi
14t is 71.27gi

I can bring either, and can meet anywhere central tomorrow evening.

@grm whereabouts are you located? Ill be working SE5 tomorrow and can bring cargo bike to pick up and take to central (I live central so it’s no bother) if that’s convenient?

@grm that would be great. It's for an old on one pompino, which I think is 120mm spacing. Let me know where you are and we can arrange to collect.

@groovyriderbikeninja - thanks for digging those freewheels out! I'm not sure what is going to be better as a run around - is 66.5gi too spinny?

I’ve found a wheel with a 16t freewheel on it already, good condition. Gear inches for that is 62.59. I used to ride 44/18 which is 64.17 and that was grand for getting up hills, though I have fairly strong legs. Perhaps starting with the 16t and if I find a 15t, I can bring it at a later date.

I’m available to meet with the wheel, and the 14T freewheel too if needed, this evening or anytime Sunday and Monday. Otherwise we’l we can find a day and time
