  • is there not an option in Strava settings?

Yeah, record an activity, settings, screen display.

  • you wouldn't be able to watch a film otherwise and maps stays on, is there not an option in Strava settings?

Not that I could find. I think films/maps register as the phone being 'in use', whereas Strava does not. Anyway, I've installed Caffeine, so that should do the trick. It's annoying, though, and not really necessary. iPhones have it as a standard settings option. Can't be difficult to include.

  • I just fired up Strava for the first time in months and found it.

record an activity, settings, screen display

  • Well I never. YLAL.

  • To be fair to you, I had to read the first Reddit post on a Google search to find that information, so it's pretty obscure and had caught out at least a few other people on Reddit.

  • Anyone interested in the new s23 phones? I did look until I saw how expensive they were!! Think I'll on to the pixel 5 and see what this year's pixel offerings are.

  • Does anyone here have a Pixelbook Go? Would you recommend?

Just hypothetically is it possible to use torrent sites such as Soulseek and Utorrent on a Pixelbook Go? (asking for a friend..)

  • uTorrent has an Android app so that would work.

  • Yeah mine should be coming tomorrow. I've "needed" a new phone for a while cos of battery life, and wanted it before I go skiing cos don't fancy getting lost on a mountain with a dying battery.

I do kind of want to switch to pixel but all the reviews and real people I asked say Samsung still edges past.

There wasn't that much difference between S22 and S23 cost wise once the pre-release deals are taken into account.

  • LOL, I'd have happily taken the tech illiteracy/lazy git shaming there.

It's not just Strava that shuts down after half an hour, though, so that Caffeine app could be the answer.

  • S23 is here...

Liking the wide angle lens - two shots taken from the same position, first is s23, the other S9

  • Mrs M_V has a Samsung tablet that she never uses, I borrowed it today for something unrelated to this query and wondered what it'd be like for drawing with so I downloaded Sketchbook and fucked about a bit and quite enjoyed it.

I do wonder if a stylus would be better than my finger though and also if there any better apps for drawing and sketching than Sketchbook?

I had a look at styluses (stylii?) and can see there are loads for around £5 and some for £25. Anything to look out for? I think Sketchbook can use pressure to manipulate your drawing tool, will the cheap ones supply this information?

    Cheers.

  • I do wonder if a stylus would be better than my finger

Barely, in the case of the cheap passive stylii you're looking at. The S-Pen is a technological marvel, but that would mean new tablet time.

  • Mmm, yeah, I did a bit more googling and looks like the tablet isn't compatible with much. It's an A7.

  • It's an A7

I have the A7 (SM-T500), it's good for the money but very much entry level. I also have a Galaxy Tab Active 3 which comes with the S-Pen which just makes me want an S-Pen compatible tablet in a bigger format 🙂

  • It's not something I want to chuck money at (yet).

I've been carrying an actual sketch book around with me recently in an attempt to do more drawing but haven't actually been using it much, I just thought the tablet might get me drawing.

  • I've got a bit of a weird use case - hive mind suggestions appreciated.

I need an Android device which I can buy though my limited company but it's only really going to be used for a temporary client contract.

It has to support the latest Android OS.

I'm essentially going to use it to create user documentation.

I have a pixel 4a for personal use and decided a while ago I'd run it until it became unusable even after it stops getting security patches. I tried setting up a separate profile but that's a non starter.

Is there a decent (cheap-ish) Android tablet I could get and then when the contract is finished donate to charity or something?

    I need to buy asap.

I guess otherwise does anyone have anything they want to get rid of? I'd need to buy through my company account...

  • Do you need a handheld, or could you run android on a VM?

  • Ha! That's a good question.

It's a bit of a nightmare. The software I am using to capture user actions is only accessible through the client virtual desktop which is a nightmare in itself.

Currently the only way i can do it is though setting up a teams meeting, joining on the android device and screen sharing and then capturing my inputs.

There's no way they will let me install anything on their systems so think VM ware is out but I don't really know enough about that. It's very locked down.

    Happy for any info though.

    Dedicated device seems most straightforward.

  • decent (cheap-ish) Android tablet

    Look just up thread 😉
If you don't need mobile telephony, the WiFi only Galaxy Tab A7 is floating around at £120-£130 for NOS SM-T500, comes with Android 10 but updates to 12

  • Soooo, I've currently got the A52s (old note 10 started randomly rejecting my SIM and a headphone jack seemed cool, all I care about is reliability, camera n battery life, decent UI)

It's been... incredibly GOOD bar the one dreaded issue... the Samsung water detected (when there's no water) loop of not being able to charge it randomly / definitely even in a light shower of rain for 0.1 seconds

Anyone else had this with later models? Just got that water drop icon and thought "should start tucking some money away for that"... I usually buy secondhand, just want something that lasts, I've got the buds live so ideally I'd want to stick with Samsung.. but not if this bug is continuing to persist with no fix...

  • Thanks. That looks ideal i think. Appreciate you helping me not checking the thread.

  • What's this icon on the left that's recently appeared and won't bugger off? Battery with what looks like a recycle symbol.

Galaxy S21, and battery is absolutely fine. Checked the health setting but nowt amiss there.

  • You might have switched on power saving mode. Mine's set to come on at 15%, but you can manually turn it on/off.
