Take it apart and clean it all out. Every few years our kitchen sink/washing machine/second sink waste gets a bit fowled up with hair from washing machine and causes the trap to not work properly. Clean it out with a pipe cleaner and some hot water and she's good another few years.

Sweet, never knew this part existed. If neighbour changes their mind (reckon a normal bath waste pipe from top of soil union up a few meters into existing vent using a glue on strap boss is my ideal right now) then will run it into attic and stick a durgo on it, want it to be serviceable as void behind bathroom appliances won't be accessible without ripping the wall out.

I would do, but I only installed it a few months ago!

My stone bay is fucked. Guess water got into the old boxes and under the stone etc blowing a lot of it when freezing.
On scale of; give it a lick of paint (1) to tear it out and rebuild whole thing (10) I'm looking at something on the lower end of the scale to fix. Maybe a 4 or 5.
The boxes are relatively simple and I'm already cutting / repairing / filling but as for the stone I'm at a loss.I'll scrape it all back as much as possible, but from there?

Stone consolidant and then stone repair mortar could be an idea. Brass wire brush to remove all the flaky / crumbly bits.

Simpler than I expected.
Cheers! And next up - best paints for external stone?

Natural stone? Lime or clay paint. Anything else messes with it's ability to dry out.

What about ‘sealing’ bare stone/artificial stone after removing paint?
I’ve started scraping away the old and crumbling paint from my Victorian bay window, that’s made partly of indeterminate real/artificial stone (which is also crumbling in areas). I like the ‘derelicte’ raw look, but fear just leaving it and doing nothing will cause it to disintegrate.
What’s the best treatment to keep the natural matte look and prevent premature weathering?

Namurian stone sealer - from the same place as the consolidant and the repair mortar.
I'd be testing it on the underside / hidden bits, though, in case it leaves a weird finish.

Why would a multimeter show zero between these two wires albeit power a gu5.3 fixture fine

Not used that exact brand but used very similar to hang a door and they were invaluable

I've used them with no problem.

Great. I'll buy them and when they burst and smash my fingers I'll dictate my thoughts to you all.

What setting do you have the multimeter on?
-
• #39447
AC - 600V
-
• #39448
Are you measuring DC (12v) from a transformer with the multimeter set to AC?

Exactly that it turns out! Thanks

So my mini makeover of the back door area from our kitchen to my garden is done. I couldn't find or indeed be bothered finding 1 Inch and a half cast iron pipe for the waste so got some new black pushfit plastic stuff from Screwfix and cracked on with that. The plasterer has finished the pebble dashing which I must say looks great! A true art to taking something that's terrible, stripping it right back, then building it up again. Added coping stones and built up the plinth so it looks amazing. Throwing the aggregate at the wall looked ultra satisfying too. Some nice pots on the slab where the boiler shed used to be will complement the area.

Interesting, I have one waste pipe in the wall, where would you suggest putting the Y? I already found it hard to find the correct adapter to go from my 56mm waste to the 40mm standard siphon connection and space is very limited behind the undersink drawer.
