  • Something something ‘best value’

  • You said it! And I couldn’t agree more.

  • If I had a choice between a £6.5k Moonwatch and a £5k Drive de Cartier (with its inhouse movement), I know which one I'd choose.

  • There's at least 10 watches at that price I'd pick ahead of the moonwatch. Not to mention the dozens that are much cheaper that I'd also call better value for the money spent.

  • I am partly kidding as you all know how I feel about speedmaster professional.

  • they don't even have sapphire glass

  • Seamaster 300 diver now £5500.

  • Sapphire version now £7400

  • Was picking up my SPB313 from Seiko (they were supposed to fix it, and haven’t, story for another time) and took the opportunity to check this out. SBGY011. Not seen one before.

Very nice actually. 40mm but wears smaller. Relatively thin thanks to the hand wound spring drive movement (same as my SBGY029). Sorry for terrible photos.

  • It sounds absurd because Moonwatches were 3k five years ago, but Omega aren’t the only ones trying to take advantage of the market craziness, or using a new movement as an excuse to bump prices, or having to put prices up due to exchange rates and rising costs.

A lot of brands are looking very expensive right now, Omega are not alone in that.

  • Jokes. Massively overpriced.

  • Am I having a moment or have a lot of the GS watches gone up in price today?

Also is there any wiggle room on pricing with GS watches at the boutiques or anyone know any authorised dealers who will discount.

  • was way too busy catching up with old mates... but Chris took a snap of my 145.006

  • I think they might price themselves out the market. Chasing crypto billionaires and the watch bubble that no longer exists... Someone's going to hurt soon.

  • IIRC that’s 200% of what I paid for mine

  • New in. Really enjoy it. Any tips re straps for fixed bars? Preferably leather.

  • 100% agree, over the next couple of years I can also see a lot of younger / smaller brands ceasing to exist.

  • You won’t get anything from the GS boutiques and I doubt you would from Watches of Switzerland either. Maybe from Jura online.

  • 2nd hand almost always makes more sense for GS.

  • 100%. Unless its a LE that you HAVE to have new, second hand is king.

6400 for a Speedmaster really is quite something. I paid $2750 for my 3570.50. Granted, I no longer have it, but that wasn't even that long ago in the grand scheme of things. Edit: actually jesus christ it was almost four years ago.

  • On the suibject of watch brands that have gone up a lot, I noticed that a Muhle Glasshutte watch that I bought new for about £1800 in 2018 is now selling new for £3k. Blimey!

Apart from a new Garmin, that was the last watch that I bought.

  • New Mido Ocean Star GMT
Case size shrank to 40.5mm, true GMT who cares about it
