defrosting and reheating ... fit for purpose
Panasonic (or LG) are your only choice of brand, in that case.
Panasonic has the patent for inverters (LG licenses it).
This means that the power is modulated - half / quarter power etc... actually is half / quarter power.
Any other brand would be full power for half / quarter of the time, or just off with the lights on and plate spinning.

Panasonic flat bed microwaves are excellent, but not cheap.

Any recommendations for microwaves? Will have to be on the worktop but may try to hide it in a cupboard at a later date. Mainly for defrosting and reheating batch made meals.
Cheap, not ugly and fit for purpose are the main criteria.
