Welcome to Finland. Plenty of snow in Lappland and even here down south XC skiing is possible on natural snow.

Can someone give me a steer on accommodation. Some mates are going somewhere in March so I've parked the idea of going with family until next year. The plan is to look for somewhere near Geneva.
The main thing is being close to the slopes as its a short trip, however, the usual websites are not showing much accommodation and also it seems really hard to get a guage of location - lots of cross referencing airbnb maps then Google maps then ski maps etc.
Anyone got any tips?
Cheers

Portes du Soleil is the easiest and closest to Geneva. Avoriaz is the biggest resort with plenty of self catering accomodation and is pedestrianised, so basically everywhere is ski in/ski out.

I'm staying with them tomorrow!

Chamonix is an easy drive too. You’ll need a car to be able to access the individual ski areas or rely on the (good) ski bus.

Nice. Because you stayed with mtbbeds?

Megeve is close to GVA if you hire a car or get a cab.

Exactly that.

Regarding chatter about snowfall, places in the states have had unfathomable snowfall. Alta is at almost 500 inches.

Lot of hope that this is going to refill reservoirs and so on, also

We are trying Flaine this year for a short transfer. I've not been before but when I booked last week the snow seemed better than Morzine/Avoriaz.
I ruled out Chamonix because of the need for a car or the ski bus.

This isn’t exactly what you expect to see n your warm up run into Courcheval. If I’d been paying I’d have been very warmed up … €2000 for up to 5 passengers.

Sad news. US Freestyle skier and former World Champ Kyle Smaine and A N Other killed in an avalanche in Japan. Only got married last November. (Not the two of them)

I just got back from Flaine, loved it. Went there last year as well. Apparently it's good for beginners/intermediate (like me). I say apparently as I haven't been to any other ski resorts so can't really compare.
The architecture is cool too, but not to everyone's taste... -

I think you're being quite generous to Flaine's buildings there!
@hugo7 Flaine's an easy transfer from GVA - just over an hour or so - is a good ski area with lots of intermediate stuff to do, and i think it's got a good snow record too. However, it is definitely not a pretty alpine village and from what i could see there's not much (any) apres or nightlife in general (but then i'm getting too old for that stuff), so depends on what you're after. Great destination for a long ski weekend, not so great for snowbomb party vibes. -

It's not traditional, that's for sure, but I like it! Modern art vibes. And yeah there's not much going on after hours, it's pretty quiet.

I say it from a place of love :) I've been a few times and always enjoyed it - in fact, am going back in March (although admittedly i can't say the Bauhaus builds are a big part of the appeal for me).

Ha - my group are going to be disappointed. They are expecting Apres. But they picked the resort not me!

Idk if this is cheeky, but the website setup requires submitting multiple requests. Would I be able to msg your sister with our dates and requirements to see if anything is available?
Idk if that's a pain in the arse, or if she gets commish and she'd be up for it.
I’m not there but I’m keeping an eye on the snow…looks fine to me! They had a fair amount of snowfall last week. With access to up to 3500m ish you’re not going to have snow issues. I’m off to Sainte Foy the same week.
