  • Do the London Cycling Campaign still offer third party liability insurance to members?

    Edit: Yes, they do: https://lcc.org.uk/membership/

Up to £5 million for £55 a year membership.

  • +1 for LCC cover. They've also got strong links to one of the better and more respectable no-win-no-fee places if you do have a prang and need to chase a third party.

  • Thanks to all for your advice.

In the end I just lost patience and joined the Cycling UK.

A few minutes after I'd done this I saw a post (in another thread) from Cliveo recommending The Clarion. I would have joined that for preference if I'd known in time. As I say, I lost patience with the whole thing for now but, other things being equal, I'll be a Clarion member from next December.

  • I have two expensive bikes (both custom frames, both 'good metals') with electronic groupsets. Is there an insurance scheme that would let me insure a 'meta bike' which would then be covered during riding? I don't ride both of them at the same time.

Been with YJ for 4 years now but I don't want to pay that much if I can help it. The price is still better than all similar options, but was wondering if there's a way to reduce it even further.

  • Setup a fake email, etc. and did a comparison site quote. Laka offering 5x as much cover for the same monthly price as I'm paying now :/

Guess I should close the account and start a fresh one.

  • Is that the new Core policy without damage, racing or travel?

  • Is that the new Core policy without damage, racing or travel?

This must be it.. assuming this was the case, I looked for a way to edit my current account but failed to see options.

Within the new quote, the what is not covered is quite extensive:

Damage to the bicycle due to a collision, a fall, or other sudden and unforeseen damage event.
Damage to your gear during non-professional races and events. When your gear is used during professional races
If you leave your bike unlocked away from home or abandon your bike.
Travel expenses you incur as a result of an incident.

It is basically theft cover. Would love to not pay for people racing spendy bikes at Spillingdon but would still like some cover for crashes on the commute (despite it never happening in 10+ years but still).

Edit: Yes it is called Laka Core on the comparison site.

  • Here it is, I believe it's going to be front and centre on the website soon

Cheers. Would like to be able to toggle between Core/Not on a bike level but I suspect 2 different policies is the way.

  • Used your code thanks!

  • Trying the LAKA core. thanks for info! Here's my code
    https://my.laka.co/PNNGX

  • Have some laka codes in the shop, these ones are a bit different, you get a month free, which is more/less than £25 depends on cover amount!
We get a kickback from it too, not much, but fair warning.

  • What's my best option for insuring a bike against crash damage and theft? Is legal cover worthwhile?

  • Best option is probably to put money into some kind of saving scheme and just deal with it when it happens. Fucking bike insurance...

  • While probably true, I'm getting £10 a month from the price comparison sites, and considering that I've just built up what seems like a fairly precious bike, it seems like a fair price just in case I crash it/get crashed into.

  • I'm curious to know what you find. Most insurers laugh when I tell them what it would cost to replace most of my bikes. I'm like "but these are the shit ones! I haven't even got to the good ones yet!"

  • How long have laka had the core option?

I've just reactivated my policy as I'm moving in a couple of weeks so need short cover for my bullitt whilst I'm in between house insurance policies.

When I left I was paying 55 quid a month (main reason I left) and it's only 20 quid now with core, pleasant surprise.

  • How long have laka had the core option?

Good question, i had no idea about it until i stuck my nose back in here. Just cancelled my normal cover and was straight away offered Core for 50% less. Even increased one bikes value by 40% and i'm still well under what i was paying before. Happy days.

  • I think pretty much when you posted this was when it came in? I got an email to alert about it and switched straight away. Covers what I need for much less.

  • 4 months ago if you read back a few posts

  • Probably been answered but, will ask again for ease.

Like many of you no doubt, I've built up 6 odd bikes from frame only and have various parts from loads of different places. These have been tinkerd with over the years and now, I'm having to insure them....but.....I've no receipts for most of the stuff. Will an insurance company require receipts in the event of a potential claim.? tia

  • You'll need to read each T&Cs but at a glance, Laka seem happy with being given a value and some photos but more details here..

    https://laka.co/gb/blog/insurance/how-to-value-your-bike-for-insurance/

  • Laka have been very simple and straightforward to deal with, although not yet had to make a claim. My bikes are in a London cyclehoop and they seemed happy with that (gold secure lock required)
Here's a 25 quid off code for anyone that wants it: https://my.laka.co/ZDX90

  • I've built my bikes from parts, no receipts.

I've had no issues in submitting claims with Laka for damaged parts as results of crashes (up to 50% of the insured value). Not sure it would differ if it was >100% insured value/stolen bike claim, but generally happy with them. Also happy to share a code if needed.

This also means if you deem your bike has more value due to current market/bespoke build/rarity/etc, you could insure it for more than an old receipt would bind you to.

  • Thanks I used this code!

    here's another:
