  • Maybe doors and four wheels.

  • Flopping? Hub knackered, badly setup steering linkage (most shops/retailers do not know how to set these, its a huge issue and causes the bike to handle like shit or just dangerous, R+M have same issues with dealers not doing the job right), play in one of the headsets etc.
Ridden 10k miles now between 2 bullitts in 5 years (so low mileage compared to couriers) and in that mileage only had to replace 1x headset bearing, and both had smallest amount of play in ball joint (about the same as the play that R+M and Omnium get in their ball/rose joint after 1000-2000 miles). Never had speed wobble, its almost exclusively caused by the above factors*

*Flex in frame causes steering geometry changes in all cargo's that use a metal rod for steering. This is why some brands like Douze utilise push me/pull you cables for steering.

  • Normal wheel just get a shimano deore/XT enclosed cam type QR from any bike shop, they are basically the best at the job. External cams look fancy but most of them don't provide as much clamping force. The ones that have a plastic piece inside the external cam shouldn't be used on any bike with disc brakes.
If its a bullitt wheel then it'll use the funky scraxle which are quite hard to get outside of a LVH dealer, they were only around I think in the late 90's. Robert axle project sells one that fits if you need it though.

  • That could well be the case! The guy who ran the courier company I used to work for was a bit of a cowboy. Refused to pay anyone to service the bikes, despite being shit at doing it himself.

  • After the 47mm rear Urban making it through its first couple of weeks with no punctures and no noticeable loss of air I'm going to try one on the front too. Biggest 20" version looks to be 2" which is a bit smaller than my Big Ben Plus, but i have a bit of a 'thing' about mismatched tyres so I'll live with it .๐Ÿ˜œ
But so far, very happy. Roll nicely, easy tubeless setup, cheap, light, and no punctures so far. Winner!

  • Theyโ€™re good arenโ€™t they. 20x2.2โ€ is also available. Much superior to the big bens imo

  • I've tried to fully service some companies various brands of cargo, but often they only want 'minimum safe operation' and not make it work properly. Half the time I have to refuse to work on them unless I can do everything as they are run into the ground and worked on by folks living under the 'messlyf' banner ;)

You get the the same thing with cars + small vans, companies and individuals operate them at the bare minimum or below in order to save money, but in reality it costs them and everyone around them a much higher costs. HGV + buses have to be at a certain standard all the time or fear the pretty fierce wrath of VOSA/DVSA so still get some horrors, but much more rare.

  • Just seen the new trek. Its a monster

  • i saw the weight spec on it .. mental

  • I was quite impressed by the seat set up. I've not looked at other brands in detail, but the Trek ones seemed well designed

  • From what I can see it's a fuck up on the website. The actual code reads 50mm for the 2.2" tyre and I've not found anyone selling anything bigger than 2" ๐Ÿ˜•

  • Even "minimum safe operation" would be pushing it a bit there, ha ha. I'd quite often have to point blank refuse to ride a bike before the boss would fix it. The set up at my current place is much better, I just get stuff serviced as and when it needs it and argue the case for spending the time and money doing it after it's already been done.

  • That looks great. Somewhere between a Bullitt and an Urban Arrow?

  • You probably have all the answers you need, and may already know this, but you can rent these in Dulwich park if you're London based and wanted to try them.

[Edit] sorry, read shortly after posting the above that you'd bought one!

  • Lol thanks but, not Uk and yes already bought one. Converting to e with a bafang kit next week ๐Ÿ‘

  • Hey, I tried to set mine up on my Brompton on some Velocity A23's (which are supposedly tubeless ready) and no joy. Was yours a ghetto conversion?

  • The trick is to add a few more layers of tape so the tyre is a tighter fit. Once you have the right amount of layers it should air up without sealant and pop pop pop onto the rim. I then open a section of the bead, pour in the sealant, and air up again before shaking the sealant around.
Without enough tape, non tubeless tyres just piss the air out.

Edit. I should add that I use a pump with a tubeless chamber built in. I don't know how doable it would be with a regular track pump.

  • When you say 'tighter fit', do you mean more around the circumference of the rim, or actually on the inside of the rim wall, as I believed rim tape on the rim wall could hinder achieving a good seal? I admit I've only taped one rim myself in 6 years of being tubeless.

  • Yeah it's more in the trough. Otherwise the tyre loses all its air before it gets forced up onto the shoulders.

  • That's good to know, will try it again sometime. Thanks.

  • The day has finally come!

Enviolo have released their new Extreme Hub!

    1. Max torque: 100Nm
    2. Max gross vehicle weight: 300kg

    Trade price exw = 237.98โ‚ฌ

Hopefully the freewheel has also been updated as the previous models on had a 3 pawl version which did not like being put under too much stress...

  • Any ideas on the key differences from Heavy Duty to Extreme? Looks like it can only take the same amount of torque, which I think is the weak point โ€“ I just killed a Enviolo Cargo hub after only 600 miles in a hilly area carrying two kids. Perhaps just a stronger casing/flanges for the additional weight, rather than internals?

I've just had the new Heavy Duty wheel built to replace the old Cargo hub which has a different case too, and hopefully uprated internals.
