Wierd. That is around the corner from my parent's place and very near to where I used to live.

This is really about drivers not really having any exposure to cyclists there. Going on rides downtown in the 90s was wild. If you were seen, other drivers reacted in either overly cautious or dangerous ways - there was no in between.
