  • Rode the bike to do an errand tonight and was reminded of the weird feeling when steering. Sometimes it's squirrelly, or kinda vague or maybe slow? I'm not really sure. Am I just experiencing gravelking syndrome for the first time? The 35s I had way back when were lovely but these are obviously very different and at very different pressures.

  • Possibly, I've had a similar experience on the pink bike, not all the time though.

  • Yeah it's not consistent on this either, seems pretty sensitive to pressure. Very weird sensation. The solution might be to overinflate them, which would be a tad frustrating as it kinda defeats the point of massive tyres

  • I left tyre pressure as was, felt better with a bar bag on, but that's what I had in mind with pink bike geo, so was expecting it to be a bit twitchy without.
Not tried it with other tyres much, but will certainly keep a note if it still occurs with different brands.

  • Have had this with big tyres as well, the bigger the tyre, the more precise you need to be when you set the pressure. On 2.35s dropping a few psi can induce the squirm.

  • Consolidating the bikes and threads...
Here's my pompino in full early 30s crisis mode:

  • not sure why but that looks excellent

  • A night in the garage tinkering. I think I'm going to commit to chopping the steerer and going for the more positive rise. Position is roughly equivalent and I think it looks better, I'll just lose the option of the "all the spacers AND posi stem" position.

  • Ah, you're getting older, embrace the +ve rise stem.

  • Then what?!
    we have to push back!

  • That's going a bit too far.

  • First draft with mudguards and bargain teravails from charity bike shop. I've been handwringing for a long time over what flavour of guard to go for, took the risk on sks silver and I'm happy with how they look! Feels kinda ctc

  • mint looking that, great bike

  • Yeeeeeah! I like that.

    Looks like loads of fun.

  • Very good.

  • Love it.
Just a quick question, steerer chop, yay or nay?

  • It's going to happen! I brought the pipecutter (I'm not to be trusted with a hacksaw) in from the garage but wimped out

  • Too cold for playing with bits of steel, wait til it gets a bit milder.

  • Inbred is "done". Dinglespeed with 32x16 & 28:20, fake jones, heavy slow tyres. I'd like to buy some nice bits for it, I'd like to get lots of braze ons, a derailleur hanger and a powdercoat for it, but for now happy to just get out on it from time to time.

    On-One? How are they?

Bike looks good! Rear mudguard is giving me dirt bike vibes.

  • They're alpkit fu manchu, from when they shit themselves about being called copycats and would only sell them secretly via email. I really like them, sweep is nice, loop is handy for hands and luggage. I've had them on this, the pompino and on my old dolan for a while.

  • On-One

I have the Jeff bars, they're OK functionally but dont look nice at all imo. Will have practical use again soon as will allow Swytch mount & bar bag on a build.

@Yoshy what's the fork on your yellow bike? I should read thread back maybe?

  • It's a velo orange piolet 26" fork :)

  • Cool ta.

Derail... I'm trying to find a 26" disc fork that will allow me to (easily) fit my pelago rack. Needs to be drilled or have potential drilling e.g. for caliper brake / mudguard Currently got a Kinesis Maxlight xlt but not sure I want to drill it. Any ideas welcomed.

    /derail.

  • Looks like the perfect bike to be mashing around sloppy woods on!
