What wheel size? There's some mad bargains out there for 27.5 at the mo. Something like a Pike might be better suited to what you're riding
But yeah, unless you're going to factor in £150+ for the inevitable service a second hand fork is likely to need, try and buy as new as possible. Forks is the one area of bikes that pains me at how wasteful it is, a two year old fork is - more often than not - considered unusable

I have this one. I can't really tell it's an xc fork not a trail fork. The damper etc. It gets bent out of shape riding rocky steps trials.
-
• #25754
Which damper?
-

Both have the absolute newest, pike with the butter cups which I can feel, it's nice. The Sid was actually just rebuilt by SRAM, but yet to try it out. I sent it to them complaining it was shit and they replaced the damper as it had broken.

inserts fucking SRAM gif

Fox 34 SC is a very good fork.
Also make sure you check the steerer length if you go second hand! -

How much are you looking to spend?
I’ve got a 120mm Pike fork that I took off my Solaris to replace with a new SID. If you’re interested I can send you some photo’s across.

Go on then. Not sure on budget till I've sold off some other bits. But keen to get a feel for what's there.

29". I guess a pike will inevitably be the way to go. Would be good to find somewhere that sells properly reconditioned stuff.

I have only have a cassette from here https://airbike.uk/ but they seem to have reasonably priced forks. Could be utter rubbish but may also be great!
Sorry probably not much help, but also worth a look -

My SID Ultimate 35 boingie thingie has just had a fork service. Also fucked off the grip-lockout so I can run Ergon grips. If it explodes in Morocco, I blame you lot for making me buy one in the first place.

Merlin have some good prices on Fox 34 Rhythm & Performance models.
I'm tempted, but not sure whether to go for a Pike Ultimate
-
• #25765
I have a rhythm and a pike ultimate. The pike is nicer. But I'm still just as shit. If your not Richy rude I'm sure the rytham will do the job.

I've currently got a broken big toe from riding into a tree, solid 3/10
This made me chuckle, sorry.
I once broke (at least I think so) my collarbone riding into a tree in a flat as a pancake Berlin park.
Ok, there was ice, but still a good reminder that trees can be very dangerous. -

Me too!
Yeah I thought I'd punctured a lung as I couldn't breathe for a good while, laid there flat out. Thankfully after the dust settled was just the toe. Quite thankful. -

Find me these 140 mm bargain 27.5 forks please. Preferably adjustable to 160.
-
• #25769
Basically half price, then just get a new airshaft

I was looking for new forks for the Tripster...
-
• #25771
Toe is also impressive. Unless you rode in sandals.

If anyone is looking for a swept bar that's not over 20°, and keeps your reach sorted, and can't stomach springing €100+ for SQLab, I'm getting on really well with this:
-
• #25773
Are you going backcountry with the tripster? Where is user amey when he is needed..
-
• #25774
Not so much now that I have the 29er but I have a few 650B (27.5) tyres that won't fit the current fork so I have thought about fitting a new fork to cater for them and something with some boing would be nice when I throw it through a
rock gardenpatch of slightly rougher gravel. Really though, I think I could just get rid of my road bikes and buy a new gravel/road machine. -

Thanks. Annoyingly I’m in Canada and it keeps opening the Canadian website.
New SID has 35mm stanchions but it ain't cheap!
I'm in agreement with this. Hard to find a shit fork nowadays
