    I didn't like sea urchin gonads the first time I had them but it turned out that they were stale and I loved them fresh.

    I'm going to be in Iceland for two weeks next month... apparently they've got various fermented seafoods that are very challenging.

  • Raw jellyfish is pretty awful. More from a texture POV than flavour.

  • Tarantula! I could not get on with grilled tarantula in Brazil. There is a food I can't eat. Lots of legs, no problem. Lots of hairy legs...get to fuck!

    I'll try pretty much anything, but that stuff is difficult not to just bring up immediately.

    Putrified shark / whale / puffin are all like the bottom of the food waste bin on a hot day.

  • There are several foods which I simply cannot eat, and many I find disgusting. I have to give people a fucking spreadsheet of them when they foolishly offer to cook for me.
    If I eat onions, for example, I immediately want to vomit until they are all gone.

  • I had the misfortune to have a pizza with andouille in Brittany on a family holiday last summer. The pizzas were shit, but mine was topped with shit sausage. I had assumed it would be like a Cajun smoked sausage - couldn’t have been more wrong.

    Brother in law saw an andouille crepe on the menu on his drive back to the UK. He couldn’t remember why the name was familiar so ordered it, and promptly had a flashback to the pizzeria when it arrived.

    Pretty much all the people I know who are like this went to boarding school. They either ate what they were given or they went hungry and so they got very used to eating what they were given.

  • It seems to me that the word “cleaning” has been usurped by the word “detailing”. Since when?
    I saw a van the other day promoting “oven detailing”.
    I don’t like this very much.

  • That's the thing people should remember when they travel. If a local food or drink is any good it will travel too.
    This is why nobody outside Croatia drinks Croatian wine, or why Cognac is world-renowned but only the locals think that Pineau de Charente is anything other than paintstripper. It's why the world outside the Lot valley doesn't put duck on pizza, or why fried carp remains stubbornly Polish.

  • I reckon that onion gravy (just thick onion soup really) is pretty much the most value-added food available.

  • I got banned over a year ago for saying "Cunty, cunt mccuntface" or something similar to someone who complained about Nish Kumar's use of the word cunt in a tweet, it's still not been overturned but I'm too stubborn to delete it when it's quite obviously just bad language and not hate speech or even directed at anyone.
