Thank you for the rec - I was going to ask the same question that'd been posed RE: switch games - just got Ori 'The Collection' in the post.
Looking forwards to playing it as someone who never had a console as a kid and is generally crap at games (in theory it's my 6 year old's switch too...).

Ori is great.

Your mention of Papers, Please made me look it up and ask my brother about it, who then set me onto Return of the Obra Dinn and WOW.
Been utterly captivated by it and can’t stop playing/thinking about it. The music and sound are especially brilliant.
It’s astonishing that one person is responsible for the concept, programming, design, art, sound & music. Lucas Pope is my new hero.

Been having a lot of fun with Stacklands lately. Available on iOS too which means it’s a good casual game. Somewhere between deckbuilder/rts/roguelike. Not tremendously deep but a fun concept.

Oh, that's such a good game. Both the mysteries of the story and the game mechanics are slowly revealed to you like layers of an onion, without any manual pages or tutorials. Have fun.
Papers Please is also fun, but nothing like as complex.

Best murder sudoku game ever.
On the Papers Please note, saw this a while back and it looked relatively interesting. Seems quite similar to Papers Please: https://www.braveatnight.co.uk/mindscanners

I really liked the idea of Obra Dinn, and I enjoyed the puzzly bits, but I had to stop playing because the graphics were giving me really bad eyestrain. Did any of you get this and find a way to fix it? Or did you just HTFU? Or is it just me having extra-weak and tragic peepers? I'd really like to play through it :(

I downloaded and played that very briefly but didn't get into it as was playing other stuff that took my attention. It was in a similar style of Papers, Please but I seem to recall there were some additional elements to work with.

Does look pretty interesting (the Neuromancer-inspired cover was very good at grabbing my attention), but like yourself I've got a massive backlog of stuff on my Switch already. So feel it's a bit silly to be adding to that quicker than I can reduce it!

Depends on whether you're just struggling with the 1-bit dithering or it's something else.
I gave it a try on the Steam Deck, and that for some reason garbled the text if half-rate shading was turned on.
Don't recall any problems on PC, but it's added a bunch of colour schemes since launch, so you can try amber or something to see if it's easier on the eyes.

Ohhh, I didn't realise there were colour schemes! That's really helpful, I'll give it another go. Hopefully this'll fix the problem. Thanks!!

I don't suppose anyone has a guide for an absolute moron (me) to be able to play media from a USB or SD card on a Switch? From what I've read there's no official way of doing it but you can use 3rd party software.

Given the recent chat about Return of the Obra Dinn, felt this should be shared:

Haven't played it (nor seen very much of it as I'd like to go into it with as little info as possible!), but seems to be well regarded and looks pretty interesting.

We clocked It Takes Two today and have gone straight onto Unravel TWO. Love it, although my kid is getting slightly more frustrated than with ITT so far.

Just to add that, while Unravel TWO is £15 in the store, you can get both one and TWO bundled for a fiver. Just fired up the first while my wingman is at school.

Finished off Shadowrun Returns last week when I was back on my xbox, enjoyed it but it was shorter than I expected. Playing Shadowrun: Dragonfall now which is the one I played a bit when it came out and I'm enjoying it a lot more this time around. There was something about it that I just couldn't get away with back when I played it originally that I seem to have got over now.

Finished rollerdrome main campaign the other day. If you like tony hawks games and shooting things it's a definite must play. Great game.

Had a fancy to play through Portal 2 again so installed it yesterday and finished it this morning. A lot easier than I remember. Possibly it’s the co-op that I have most of a memory for being tricky.

Goldeneye on Gamepass is unexpected
Been enjoying Strange Horticulture. Oddly reminiscent of Papers Please, if that game had been set in a very genteel, occult alternate history with no time pressure.
