You are probably right. Also, some 50 tanks probably wont make a huge difference either.
I was just wondering if there was some kind of defined/agreed distinction.

I think Germany just wanted to avoid being the only giver of the leopard tanks. If Germany teams up with the US, poland, spain, etc it will be Nato that might be seen escalating the conflict rather than an individual country.
The tanks seem pretty badass from what I gather, bet they can make quite a dent in the Russian lines.

I don't think it matters for either protagonist or for those donating the tanks. Putin has always claimed that he's fighting against western imperialism anyway. We've learned pretty clearly that holding back on the basis that it might provoke him or give him ammunition for propaganda is worthless since the entire Russian regime is built on lies.
