  • Just to say, I bought that Lagavulin 8. First impressions are that it is definitely less than half as good as the 16.

  • Just cracked open a bottle of this. Punchy. But a lot of sherry sweetness. Different for me. Good stuff!

  • Caskshare have a 30yo Macallan bottling coming up (May 2023) and opened a ballot to be able to buy one.
Price is a rather punchy £2850 for a bottle.

Cheaper than Macallan direct for their 30s (Sherry cask is £3700 and double cask is £3450)

Knowing what people on here spend on luxury shenanigans, thought I'd share.
Happy to help anyone drink a bottle (not able to assist in buying it though, I am a pauper)

  • More realistic drinking, I opened the Lidl 19yo Islay (£40)
Lovely smoke on the nose. light medicinal notes, but pretty light on the pallet
(not too smoky and no TCPness, far a from a Laphroaig)

Quite enjoyable, will happily drink it.

Don't think it is worth buying a 2nd bottle (if i could find one), think the Bowmore 12 is preferable (to me) and can be readily found & (usually) cheaper

  • Any good shouts for interesting/nicely priced bourbons at the moment

  • I tend to stick to the tried and tested Woodford Reserve.
I've tried the double oak, and prefer the regular bottle.
Their Rye is banging though, if you fancy something a little spicier.

Seen Wild Turkey 101 for a good price but haven't tried it, so cannot comment on it.

  • Not bourbon but I'm enjoying this seasonal number

  • Ooh I've been looking at that too!

  • Picked up a litre of Bowmore 10 Aston Martin for £35 at the airport as seemed a decent deal. Medium level smoke and peat, verybtlittle tcp and slight bacony notes. Decent enough for the price

  • Stick with Woodford, Wicked Chicken is ok but makes me think I'm in film noir.

  • I am always intrigued by those 'Ampersand' bottles.

Noticed there is an 18yo Peated Highlands Seaweeds&...for £65.
Might be a bargain, but I can't bring myself to drop more than £40 on an untried drink

Might see if they do a Drinks By The Dram style sampler.

  • Just doing my online Tesco shop and just spotted that Dalwhinnie Winters Gold and Talisker are both £25 clubcard price.

  • nice one, I might pick up another dalwhinnie, really enjoyed the last bottle

  • A client bought me this today and i will not be waiting until Christmas to open it. I've had a couple of other bottles from Scotch Universe and both have been lovely so keen to crack this open

  • I got myself a bottle of bunahabbabbababainaababaabain from sainos for £25. It is delicious. And I'm struggling to hold back from having some right now. I'm supposed to be working.

  • Bowmore 12 is only £26.80 a bottle on Amazon at the moment.

  • Got a bottle of Alsacien whisky from my father in law at Christmas, should be interesting.

  • Some great malts there, Arbelour is one of my favourites, I had a four day trip to Scotland with one of my daughters last month, I squeezed in two tasting sessions and a distillery Tour, the latter at the Glengoyne Distillery which was excellent.

I can recommend the Whisky Experience on the Royal Mile in Edinburgh, just a few yards from the Castle, they have a fantastic collection of 3500 bottles and the bar has circa 300 available to try. I treated myself to a few bottles while I was there, a Highland AnCnoc 12 year old and Lowland Auchentoshan American Oak which is beautifully smooth.

We also for our sins went in to the Johnny Walker Experience place on Princes Street, I have never been a fan of their blends but we visited to see the other Whiskies on sale and to try the roof top restaurant, killing time we did their own tasting experience, during which we got to try their seasonal Winter Blend which I discovered had three of my favourite malts in the blend, namely Caol Isla, Cardhu & Glenkinchie, it was so good I nabbed a bottle of that too so I have plenty to be getting on with, especially as my other daughters bought me a 16 year old Lagavulin for Christmas as well :)

  • Next whisky club is at 7pm on 28 January at Water Into Beer in Brockley, all welcome. It's free, just bring a bottle of whisky to share and buy a can of beer to drink first as a thank you to the shop for hosting us.

  • Auchentoshan American Oak for £22 from Sainos is making some solid hot toddies as I try to rid myself of the lurgy my family gave me for Christmas.

  • cask strength whisky, what is the idea?
You add water yourself to a palatable level?
Drink it at a punchy ABV?

Ordered up a Raasay cask strength (61%) limited bottling, and have no idea what I am doing with it.
only 1500 bottles, so will likely leave it for a while before cracking it open

(if anyone else wants one, you need a code to order, SC-CS-2023 £65 and there is a free delivery option)

  • I think you probably need to add some water. Probably from the source.

  • cask strength whisky, what is the idea?

add Diet Coke, ice, slice of lemon
