  • I don't recommend spending 3+ hours watching Babylon. Very much a 'director of a hit movie being allowed to do whatever he wants' vibe. A few entertaining scenes, but a mess overall.

  • Love that film, seems to really have slipped under the radar

  • I got round to watching X. Decent! Nothing ground breaking but a pretty well made, tense slasher.

  • Halloween Ends

    Split opinions in my house.
I liked it, great cold open, fantastic score.
Maybe too little MM and underdeveloped plot.
Better than Kills, not as good as 2018 (or 1978)
Reckon you can just watch 2018 and be done with it, didn't need to be a trilogy.

  • Saw I Wanna Dance With Somebody on Friday, it was a sugar coated handling of the story and the last 20 mins dragged. Even so, there were some nice insights not covered in the first two docudramas and the sound/ dubbing was great. And Clarke Peters is always a bonus.

  • Watching Minority report on Saturday evening reminded me of how much of a flat spot the late 90s and early 2000s were for me. Am i being harsh/blinkered or were films generally a bit shit around then?

Struggled to think of three films i'd be sad if i could never watch again. Came up with The Insider, Battle Royale and Spirited Away (Like Momento but don't need to watch it again).

  • You People, I thought it had some funny bit but every time jonah hills mum in the film opened her mouth I had to mute it. Beyond cringe and I felt it wrapped up too fast at the end to just finish it off happy.

Guess who was a better film which is basically the same.

  • Great, THIS is how I find out Bernie Mac died.

  • The Matrix
    Scream
    28 Days Later
    Donnie Darko

    Maybe Tarantino stuff?

I do agree though, plenty of stuff in the early 90s that I still like watching (True Romance, Jurassic Park, Point Break) and the late 00s (Nolan Batmans)

    Probably loads I am forgetting.

I feel we are in a funk right now too, not much from 2019 onwards (the covid times) to bang on about.

  • Fargo (1996)
Big Lebowski (1997) not a huge fan but figure it's well loved
    Fight Club (1999)
Matrix (1999) probably seems dated now but in the relatively pre internet days was really interesting

  • Scream

    Mid 90s

    Maybe Tarantino stuff?

He gave us a break between late 97 to late 2003

    Nolan Batmans

    Agreed, go back them regularly.

    not much from 2019 onwards

    The Matrix
    Scream...

  • I was watching a lot of foreign cinema around then. All pretty heavy going. Requiem for a Dream too - not a whole lot of rewatch appeal!

  • Not a fan of Funny Games but i'd add Amores perros and In the mood for love.

Still though, by mid 2000s we have The lives of others, Tell no one, and a bunch of good stuff from Korea i regularly go back to (Kung fu hustle!)

  • Ah yes, Amores Perros is another great one!

  • The Talented Mr Ripley
    Office Space
    Galaxy Quest

They were off the top of my head.

  • not much from 2019 onwards

    The Matrix
    Scream...

    lol

I was a Japanese horror fan when it got popular in the early 00s, Ring, Grudge, Takashi Miike films (not sure the last time I watched Ichi the Killer or Audition, not sure I would rewatch them now)

Having late 90s flashbacks of getting baked and watching shit films at the pictures.
The Faculty, Lake Placid, Deep Blue Sea, End of Days, Stigmata, pretty sure I watched all of those during lockdown too.
Recently tried Blair Witch Project, but gave up after half an hour.

  • pre internet days

    lol

  • Wish I'd seen this before 7:30pm yesterday.
How is that film 3hrs? I swear it finishes and then lasts another 25minutes

  • I thought trainspotting, human traffic and lock stock & 2 smoking barrels were pretty decent. But then again I'm forrin and I was a blazing teenager in the 90s.

  • Recently tried Blair Witch Project, but gave up after half an hour.

    Its so dull!

  • Magnolia
    Election
    Being John Malkovich
    Eyes Wide Shut

  • Good list

    Would add Mulholland Drive

  • Yes. The last bit really killed it for me. So pretentious.

  • Megan - lifesize LOL companion goes wrong, really fun horror, I was surprised how great it was.

  • 3 good picks, but I think you missed Boogie Nights, Fargo...
