  • Anyone that writes out all the zeros in million / billion can safely be ignored.

    I actually think the opposite to this. I wish in reporting they did put all the 000's in. There's so much information lost in comparing 'millions' or 'billions' as opposed to writing it out long hand so you can see how much the difference is.

    (I know it'd be unwieldy and lose readability, perhaps some other illustrative way of showing how big these numbers are when they're used would be valuable)

  • I just associate it with people trying to lie / scare with numbers or use inappropriate units.

    For example, 2,500,000 litres of water sounds like a lot, but it's about one Olympic swimming pool.
