Brushing, playing, brushing the stylus ... Generally after twice it's alright. A wet clean with a microfiber cloth does help though, particularly with the static.
Yeah, that's what I do for new records. Play it, and clean off any paper/plastic gunk that get's stuck to the needle. As you say, it's normally fine after a couple of plays.
Used records get a spray of water/isopropyl alcohol (with a tiny squirt of washing up liquid), scrub with a soft nailbrush, and rinse under a tap.
How is everyone cleaning their records?
And I don't mean cleaning 30 year old stuff that has been sitting in a dusty barn, but new ones -
the thought of having to clean newly bought records before even playing them always annoyed me, but frankly I've had a few in the last weeks (shrink wrapped, fresh from the store) that sounded really shit - but got better (sometimes a lot better) by cleaning them.
The method I'm using is: 50/50 mix of alcohol and water in a spray bottle and a clean soft cloth (I read somewhere that's what some famous radio DJ was doing so I figured it must be good, plus it seemed cheap and do-able : )
It's actually a bit more of a faff it turns out, if you want to do it properly and not just quickly wipe the thing a bit - it works though (like I said sometimes really well, sometimes just so-so).
Are there better methods is my question I guess.
These Spincare / Knosti things are really just for cleaning big (20-40) batches, right?
