Shouldn’t a tv program be fairly self explanatory
-
• #8203
Yes. Surely it should stand up by itself?

I massively recommend the books.
They are so punchily written, switching from short chapter to chapter by characters, that all overlap; you can’t stop reading sometimes.

I think what mr hat beard is saying is that the story is a about to go down a different route to the normal zombie series

Ta. will check them out

Yeah found the opening episode really boring.

typically yes but it can only explain itself as much as the story unfolds. plenty of great shows spend the first episode setting the scene.
in this case though we know what the story is as it's being pulled almost verbatim from a video game that was flooded with accolades for it's story and characters. I'm explaining that formulaic is probably an unfair assessment this early on.
the two halves of the first episode are important because they provide context for the relationship between Joel and Ellie and explains what they need to do and in what kind of world they need to do it in. the overall story is about their journey and they basically just stepped out of the front door.

Late to S3 of The Boys
Ok that’s full on..as usual -

So good, surely we can’t be far off season 4 now.
Watched chippendales, really enjoyed it, love Kumail Nanjiani from Silicon Valley, he was great in this too, very different role.

Finished 'Severance' on Apple TV last night. Recommended!

I think Our Flag Means Death deserves better than it's got on here. Perhaps a slowly developing gay pirate love story isn't for everyone.
I recently heard about Party Down, from more than 10 years ago, which has Adam Scott and loads of people who went on to other things. Only 2 series of 10 episodes but I was sad when it ended. BUT, it's coming back with most of the original cast. -

I’ve not watched it yet, but my wife recommends Know Your Shit on C4

Can't wait for season 2, best TV show in years

Watched Haply Valley series 1 this week. Very nerve racking. I don’t know why, but I’d had the impression/assumption it was a bit middling and more of a dramedy about a local community, but it’s definitely not - and one of the most gripping and intense crime dramas I’ve ever seen. Gone straight onto series 2 and will be onto 3, currently screening, to be caught up by the time it ends.

Interesting - I definitely always thought it was more ITV Sunday drama than something gritty.
I was visiting my parents this weekend and they watched the latest episode of whatever series is on now and I thought it was total shit. Some of the worst acting and directing I've seen in ages along with a story that was so weirdly paced and out of place for its setting.
Each to their own I guess.

I thought the same seeing as she was in Corrie, I assumed that level of programme
-
• #8222
Sounds like it could have lost its way, then. I was wondering to myself what the hell happens given how self-contained the first series was, but I’m definitely invested enough to want to find out.

I'm doing the same thing and was equally surprised and invested in series 1. Series 2 definitely drops in quality and verges towards ITV (I know it's on BBC) Sunday evening drama territory but at 6 episodes is easy enough to see through and isn't unwatchable. Need to start series 3 and hoping for a return in quality.

Yeah - I've seen nothing but this episode so assume it's the usual gone on too long thing.

Just finished Bad Sisters and I really recommend it, as I think a few others have.
if you've not played the game you'll have no idea where the story is going or how the characters develop from the opening episode alone.
