  • This has been on my list for a while, but not been. Have eaten at his previous place a couple of times tho. Was banging. https://www.instagram.com/hide_restaurant/

  • Oof Trivet looks great but probably more relationship anniversary event level of spending!

We went there for our 20th anniversary.

    It was shite.

  • Oklava has closed. Well, bugger.

  • In London (Hyde Park ish) in April for a birthday. Any recommendations on somewhere fancy to eat? Possibly Italian?

  • Osteria Romana. Good and fancy by postcode I guess.

Locanda Locatelli is still worth the splurge. Hadn’t been for 4 years but it was as good as I remembered it the last time I went.

  • Thanks! Locanda Locatelli has been mentioned a couple times. Quite like the look of a Osteria too

  • Taking Mrs M to Wilton’s tomorrow for her birthday treat.

At ££££ I do not want to sit with riff-raff, do not want poor service. Which is exactly what happened at Rules for my birthday, a couple of weeks ago.

While gentlemen are welcome to wear a jacket and tie they are not required to. We would ask that no trainers, open toed shoes, sportswear or short sleeve shirts are worn

Wilton’s called me this morning asking if Mrs M would like to be fussed over, have picked out the best table for us, promising a memorable experience.

If Wilton’s matches Scott’s of Mayfair, then I know it will be worth it.

I have told Mrs M that dress code is pretty strict and not to be late arriving.

    Reservations at £50 per person

  • Been a while but osteria dell’angolo in Pimlico was our treat dining out when I lived there

  • More French cuisine, actually menu changes seasonally.. in the heart of theatre-land between Wyndham’s and Noël Coward in St Martin’s Court, just behind Leicester Sq.

Great place, great atmosphere, reasonable priced.

  • would you like to self report to the golf club thread?

  • Cheers! Appreciate these

  • No need I’m fully paid up, lol

  • Any suggestions for somewhere nice to eat that's relatively close to Shoreditch station for this Saturday night that won't be massively packed/wanky/expensive? Pub vibe preferred, Vegan, vegetarian options useful.

  • packed/wanky/expensive aka hipsterville Shoreditch..

    good luck

  • exactly ^
Rochelle but is for sat and you're asking now, so it's unfort full...

  • hipsterville

Not been out there in ages but thought they'd all fucked off to Peckham and Froome and it was just weekend visitors these days? Ah well, couple more stops to The Eagle then!

  • Not super close but Crispin is nice and usually some nice veg options, also Bubala spitalfields.
Marksman is a good pub food but maybe not that veggie friendly. Cay tre?

  • I actually think Shoreditch isn't so bad these days - but it is always going to be pretty busy on a weekend

  • The Eagle on Farringdon Rd? I love that place, always a great vibe, never been at the weekend, food is consistently good though when I’ve been.

Remember also great places down Exmouth Market with lots of choice like Moro, Morito, Santoré

my friend's wife vegan place, not pub vibe but...

  • So Wilton’s last night,

Well appointed, staff and service impeccable. Menu was limited, trolley doing the rounds (beef wellington) dishes generally were traditional and modest sized. Wine list extensive.

It did feel like eating for boarding school circa 1950s. I suppose it’s family links, political ties, satirical references to cartoons in the Spectator gives it that established feel.

Mrs M was made to feel very special and ended up spending three hours there, also we like dressing up for special occasions.

This restaurant was Mrs M request, she was happy. So that is all that counts really

The bill was pretty modest. Personally, in terms of dining experience was good, not great and no wow.

    3/5

  • Has anyone had dinner at St. Barts? https://www.restaurant-stbarts.co.uk/

Saw a review in The Guardian and from the whole experience etc looks very appealing for a birthday dinner

  • Ate at St Bart’s and Lisboeta last week - st Bart’s was bloody excellent, Lisboeta was meh

I went for an end of year dinner with Meta and it was really good. Great vibe too

  • Seems that Lighthaus in Leyton has closed now, it's another Pavilion cafe as of a month ago.
