Cycling in Cornwall

We're moving to Kernow in 3 weeks and I cannot wait! We're all very excited at home however we're a bit apprehensive about the terrain on bikes as iirc, it's all hilly AF. Any Cornish folk want to share tips and advice? It'll mainly be tarmac, gravel tracks and moorland roads so no full on mtb.

What do you want to know? It’s hilly and blind corners on every back road due to high walls. Lovely views. Lived hear since I was 16 so nearly 20 years, any questions fire away.

Well really routes, cafes , cycle friendly boozers, family trails other than the Camel. Anything of interest for a wandering cyclist with a Carradice that's prepared to stop and/or lock up and walk.

Welcome to Cornwall. It is very hilly, but most climbs are relatively short, so once you get to a certain level of fitness, you get used to it. Wrong end of Cornwall for you, but I like to head down to Land's End for longer rides. West Kernow Way opened last year and is a 230km loop offroad and small lanes.

Bissoe Trail is quite family friendly and runs north to south coast with cafe's etc.

Where are you moving too? I've got a 6 and 4 yo and the following works well:

I've only walked it with kids on their bikes, but they've just opened up a section of the Saint's Trail from Goonhaven to Perran.

The Camel trail from Wadebridge towards Bodmin is worth a go as it's less busier than the 'classic' Wadebridge to Padstow section.

We sometimes go to Cardinham woods for a simple flatish route for the kids - there's a decent MTB track there too.

Launceston's a great spot for riding as you have easy access to Bodmin Moor and Dartmoor. It's less lumpy going north and empty too. Be prepared for grippy roads and lots of rain. The foot of Bodmin moor through to the Tamar valley and over is one of my favourite parts of the country. (Raised in Kernow, living in Devon).

I’m in Tywardreath so not too far. Down my way you have the clay trails and pentewen valley.

A nice cafe has opened across from Clive Mitchell cycles in Summercourt. The guys in the bike shop are always great!

I know of a few (me and an ex colleague) but anyone else ride fixed down here?

I may convert the SS back to fixed but, I think the WI and a like of freewheeling coupled with a bad incident on a ride a few years ago from Totnes to Salcombe fixed , might make me reconsider .
