Is the email in plain text format? Are you replying or is it a new email, if replying it could be down to the format of the one sent to you.

I was sending a new email, no chain, no reply.
'plain text format'?
Googlemail, click on 'Compose' - whatever format I am given.
Is there an option within the settings of either Firefox or Googlemail
where I (now?) have to enable something better than 'plain text format'?

It's unlikely if it's a new email. Setting is here:

I'd try using Chrome for Gmail rather than Firefox
