  • This just reminded me to cancel my auto-renew membership.
    Looking for alternatives now

  • how about you fuck off?

  • A long, but interesting, blog from Brian Cookson, former BC (and UCI) president, on how things could possibly change for the better at BC:

    https://www.briancookson.com/blog/2023/1/3/some-thoughts-on-british-cycling-at-the-start-of-2023

  • Interesting, thanks for sharing.

the dramatic fall in the number of cycling events scheduled for 2023, which I understand is 28% down on 2022

    That's a huge drop.

  • To me it reads like BC has gone the way comparable to utility companies - going from publicly owned to 'responsible to shareholder' mantra, i.e. we are here to make money, no matter what.
UK Sport and Sport England have way too much say in how the sport in this country is managed and supported. I was disgusted by the manner carpet was pulled under some sports (baskeball for an example, a sport that is predominately played by those most deprived, most needing an injection of funds - urban young black man), for the money to be plowed into some other sports under umbrella of 'xxxx (diversity, inclusion....write whatever you want here).
Tells you a lot of how much people that decide on 100's of £M of taxpayers money have idea about what needs changing and where the supports is really most needed to get this nation of their sofas. Mind you, the same goes for any newspaper or website for that matter , which tells you even more about how sport is perceived in UK - football, cricket, rugby......and little to nothing about anything else. And next to nothing (excuse the repeating the words )has changed in last 30 years I've been here...

As a former sponsor of BC, Netball, UKA and of other governing bodies, clubs, individual sport persons etc., I have seen the shift in direction Brian is talking about already back in 2012, past London games (see ^), but with the dominance of Tories it means they are taking it even further down the 'medals or nothing route'.

Though I have not always agreed with Brian in past, this IS where we are in agreement - unelected members of boards that have no idea about who they represent and are not accountable to members should not be governing a national federation, cycling or any other.

But what do I know, I'm only a foreigner 🙄

  • I want to enter a sportive (yeah, what of it) but you can only enter by registering an account with the BC website. Is there any chance of benefits to BC if I do that then immediately cancel the account?

BC will take a small admin fee, not sure what implications canceling the account will have on your entry

  • Is the Sportive just using BC as a way of collecting payments?
Brixton Cycles Club use BC to collect payments, BC charge about £1?

  • Yes, it appears so. But I've just found out I'm likely to need pretty major surgery in the near future, which might put the kibosh on the sportive anyway.

  • So what happened at the AGM back in November?

  • Brixton Cycles Club use BC to collect payments, BC charge about £1?

Currently we do still use their system for subs. Wanted to migrate elsewhere last year but stuff got in the way. Looking again this year. But if individual members ask, we can work around it...

  • I’m taking a pragmatic approach, it’s not worth messing BCC around over £2 ❤️💛💚

  • Good call.
Shell themselves, who run a very, er, sophisticated PR operation are themselves experts at saying, "let's sit down and talk things through", all apparently sweet polite reason.
    Meanwhile ....
doubtless they will be training BC in this bullshit flannel as well.

  • well I rather think you do know about the rest of us.

Shell should be given our full support.

    er why exactly?

is there any point at which your bizarre support for shell would be questioned?

  • you disappoint me.
you have no plans to take over London Clarion with some sort of shadow organisation?
Afraid they would tell you to naff off?
In a good northern way - Clarion has northern roots of course.
Northerners tend to see straight through bullshit.

  • Where clarion built out of meeting at the national milk bar chain.

  • the outraged individual left calling him a “c**t”.

    On here?

  • DogandBellCrew
I don't know about the rest of you, but I for one don't have any objection for BC accepting sponsorship from Shell. Given the Russian invasion of Ukraine and the number of rail strikes that have taken place recently, cars and oil are going to be more important than ever next year, and Shell should be given our full support
