rode alongside the guy riding this in virginia water in the pissing rain on sunday. was wondering if it was someone on here ... others in my group were also impressed by the mudguards - really cool
i was also wondering about attachment points @PhilDAS and how long the paint job would last on those (plastic?) fenders

through axle has been drilled and tapped. then on the other side there's a nut glued into the through axle hole

I have thought about modifying a thru-axle for a front guard more or less like this, but the crown attachment point bugged me too much. I really want a solid solution.
So bought a secondhand fork which I (still) need to modify. Plan is to epoxy stainless nuts on the legs and a short flat head M5 at the crown and fasten it with a nyloc nut.
This way I would have a dedicated "winter" fork, so I can just swap the whole thing out during winter/summer maintenance. Might also add a complete brake and shifter assembly to speed this up.
Failed to get it done for this winter, don't have any time to do any riding anyway, but hope to have it done end of this year!

Real McCoy.
He's not made of money though - it was his race bike, was written off in a crash so repaired and repainted. One of the nicest guys I've met in cycling imo.

Super clever solution but guessing taking the wheel out is a a bit of a mission? Although with good tubeless and some luck then not something you need to do that often

I've just put the guards back on the Surly and finally fitted the new wheels. Feels pretty rapid on the new rims

I have a nice road bike for dry rides and a Ribble carbon winter bike with 105, full guards and decent wheels for wet rides, this arrangement works really well for me and the handling is fairly similar.
I was looking at bikes here like the Kinesis, but Ribble frame came up cheap – you can probably get them secondhand for not much now. -

Looks good.
There’s a lot to be said for the bagman support and a Carradice. Seatpacks are great when you have a lot of squashable stuff to cram in, but when you want to quickly access stuff...

Yeah I like the Carradice. It's the perfect size for lunch and a change of clothes. Stops me overpacking which I always do with bigger bags. You forget it's there when you're riding.

Finally finished building up the Stayer and took it for a long first ride today. Few little niggles to sort (my mechanic skills not the frame) but the ride is really great - going to be a great companion for year-round miles. Will be getting some silly wheels for summer, but current set-up is perfect for this weather.

it's not mine, it's a friend's, but as I understand it on one side the through axle has been drilled and tapped. then on the other side there's a nut glued into the through axle hole.
Then super strong velcro for the frame attachment points.
