Arsenal's extra bonus is that City and Liverpool are well below thier usual standard and Chelsea seem to have dropped off a cliff. It's similar circumstances for when Liecester won the league. Arsenal seem to have a clear plan of what they're doing, so regardless of whether they lose a few games they should still be well in the mix come the business end of the season.
If its true and 90 points is needed to clinch the title this year, Arsenal haven't managed the necessary second half of the season points in a decade. City on the other hand have scored 40+ points in the 2nd half of the season 5 times in the last 6 years.
There's hope, there is a chance.

Managers are great at saying things publicly that they only half believe. It's all designed to relieve pressure on the team and manage expectations. He may well be right, but if he's looking at the teams around him, only Man Utd and Man City are really going to challenge that total and Arsenal are 8/9 points ahead of them both.

How many times have Arsenal started the season like this in the last decade? I'm guessing none. From the outside at least they look like a different proposition to the various 'start well/fade' 'start badly/improve' arsenal sides of the post-wenger era.
