Really nice

Really wasn't sure how you were gonna top the red Saeco build but this is shaping up amazingly. I know i said DA 9000 before but with those wheels a Campagnolo groupset would be mega. If you do go R8000 (but with nicer cranks please) i might be able to help out if you need a 34.9 FD.
You still got the silver Specialized?

Thanks mate, keeps the motivation high
The only weak point of the red saeco build was the frameset imho. It was “only” a caad 3 and it wasnt the team replica. So despite the overall very charming build, this detail was one of the reasons why I split this thing.
Re silver Spesh, You mean the Allez sprint?
Nah, I sold this in Nov 2021, shortly after I posted these photos . It was shortly after our second child was born and therefore I expected 2022 to be very poor bike-ride wise and I did not want to have this thing not being used for a year.
Turned out it was the right decision as I got a good deal on all the parts plus then shortly after the new allez was released which made mine less attractive :-)
And yes I would really like to go campa with the saeco build but my builds are mostly super low budget so I cannot imagine how this is gonna work
@Elpolo 😘
@Glws I dont get the wheel related part of your post 🤷🏻♂️ but if @Acliff really has some DA 9100 for sale it would be worth considering…

Super low budget ?
Thats not how i picture that Look
..
About wheels i meant that these have a real design quality, going along with a certain period. Too many bike builds on here are pure brand fetishism where the actual design doesn't matter much -

Okay that might not have been well put, pardon 🤡
What I was trying to express is that compared to the RRPs/market value I am trying to keep my builds as low budget as possible as this is part of my motivation besides the builds themselves.
I dont see the point/challenge in just buying everything for the price it comes up first because then every build could be completed fairly quickly I assume.
For the black saeco as pictured, I think it was ~600-700, for the red one I think it was 800-900. *
The SL6 slightly over 2k.
Look was slightly north of 3 in the final (in my view perfect) configuration which, imho, is on the veeeeeeery low end for such a high end machine given RRP for the wheels/tires alone is 3k 😅
(*noting that this includes deduction for the stuff that was on the bike when I bought it and which I am selling along the way while completing the build)

I’m with you. If you were just going to drop 10k on a build, you could just do one order from sigma sports and be done with it.
Hunting for the high end bargains is most of the fun -
• #484
Yes of course, i prefer bargain hunt amd build sub 2k light and fun bikes. i would add that a dose of rim brake "militantism" makes it more fun amidst the widespread disc brake heaviness

If you're going 2x11, second hand Chorus/Record 11s with the 5-arm chainset should be within your budget and compliment the wheels
-
• #486
Wheels look amazing. I love that era of decals. I’ve lost track, this is all to go on the black saeco??

Brace yourself

• #488
Ha okay; I had indeed lost track. Excellent.

Bahahaha
should I sense some alarming signals when even the guys in the bike nerd forum get confused?

Thanks for encouraging mate
What would you say is a fair price for an 11 spd record (not super record) in decent state?
I have never searched for a campa groupset before tbh…..
-
• #491
Marktplaats.nl is a good bet, I think I paid around 350€ for a mint condition chorus 11 with the 5 Arm cranks and a record 11 derailleur.
-
• #492
Condition and what makes up the group is key I'd say.
In the UK, I paid £500 for Chorus 11x which was above average, but came as a complete groupset with no damage to the cranks, levers etc from a private seller.
I'd imagine Record would be around £650 if you kept a keen eye. Perhaps more cost effective to buy separate components too, that way you guarantee the condition.

Okay if thats the range, I am in
However, from the top of my head, havent seen an 11s (super) record under 1,000
🧐
Edit: Im talkin Euros obv - but then still.. DA 9100 would not be cheaper plus campa saves me buying a new freehub
-
• #494
Aren't 11x Campagnolo and Shimano cassettes the same width and spacing? So leave the freehub and run 11x of either flavour?
-
• #495
SR 11 for 650€ on marktplaats
And yes, 11 speed casettes have the same spacing, I‘m using my chorus/record 11 groupset with an 11 shimano casette and chain. -
• #496
Okay wow thats reasonable
Thanks for enlightening me here!
(I mean re pricing and also re possible cassette dual use)
Edit: sorted - wheel seller used wheelset with 11s Campa SR so here we go!
-
• #497
By the way, whats the difference between record and super?
Only weight or also any performance aspect?
I am tending towards record because of the white/red logos 🙄
-
• #498
Wheel weight including rim tape, tubes and tires (excluding QRs and cassette) below.
As I have only owner æro carbon rims so far: is that still light or is it super outdated and modern wheels weigh half of it?

Ooof
In the meantime:
Couple wheel shots w/ veloflex corsa race (200g) 23 front/25 rear (#because) and tubolitos
I must say that it was worth it chasing these wheels for several years
