Quick question to the NJS pros in here:
Does anyone know whether DA 7710 cranks are always NJS or whether there were examples that were non-NJS?
Reason is that I have an anodised 7710 crankset, which is, from my inspection, identical to my silver NJS 7710.
However, since the NJS “stamp” is just printed (see photo attached) its impossible for me to tell whether there was such a print prior to anodising or not.
Thanks in advance

Was it custom anodised or factory?
Sugino 75s are all stamped NJS but factory anodised pairs have the logo stamped over with a blank stamp, as only silver cranks are actually certified for use. For example my black 75s have a circlular indent on the back where the NJS mark was over-stamped to remove it.
So I would guess if the DA cranks are factory anodised, they would not add the logo.
If they were custom anodised then I suppose you can disregard that..No actual clue if they made non-njs versions.

175mm njs? That has got to be rare.

@samrensho I think they were custom anodised (black) as they also have the DA logos etched in instead of just printed onto the arms
@damskodonny the photo is taken from google as I have sold my own 7710 silver one and I am therefore not able to take a photo. Both my silver and black ones are/were 165

Only silver components can be NJS.
Black S75 cranks start life as silver NJS ones but the stamp is drilled off prior to anodising.
I’d imagine Shimano do the same or don’t stamp them at all prior to anodising. T -

Cross posting for any help from NJS heads?

Very difficult one, not sure on the serial numbers, but the seatpost lug is quite unusual and few builders have used them I'm sure.
It appears to be most common on panasonics as far as I can tell.
So that would be my guess. Could be completely wrong that said.Edit
Just noticed similar on other thread -

The serial number could imply that the frame has been produced in August of 2001. I'm not sure if it's the norm for all NJS frames, but this video from the Level workshop suggests that approach. Not that it really matters in this case, but it might be an interesting video (and channel), nonetheless.

Also, is anyone good at interpreting NJS frameset numbers?
My Makino's frame number is 0812 358, which I presume makes it December 2008, right? Or is it a Japanese date in disguise?
The Samson is 80913. I can only guess that this is Heisei 8, which is 1996.
I heard that there is a website where you can look up the year and spec of each Samson frame, but I've not been able to find it.

I appreciate the comment... Especially from fellow njs bike Fam. The Samson is beautiful with all of its fine details. I can definitely relate to your desire to upgrade. My goal for this build was to enjoy the craftsmanship of a frame that far exceeds my ability. It might not look flashy/new to a great majority but it holds its value with me... Heres a pic of my wet day post which is usually covered up by the rear fender attachment

So I ordered this quill stem to allow the option of using a 31.8 diameter bar... I'm done experimenting with stem length/angles with the use of a 1-1/8 threadless converter
Post edit pic: stem came in
