IIRC Otler is part of Giant Bikes. Bikes are ok but I'll not buy one.
If you are to put a Swytch kit on, it's not as simple as it is marketed, the front axle don't fit (although Swytch says it will) and I would not do such a swap without at least, having disc brakes.

And rinse with hot, 45 seconds later

Don’t know anyone with a Swytch that has disc brakes, and the actual speeds don’t seem to require it.

Ah yes, a bit of googling does highlight that front axle issue. I was wondering about disc brakes, it will be a bit of a lump with that bike and a child seat and me but on the other hand the swytch doesn't go that fast.
@Jonny69 that's a good point. Given I don't have the bike or a child seat it's a bit difficult guessing on the dimensions.

Sheldon uses the term 'sprockets' in this article.
Is he saying it's better to use even tooth chainring and cog or just cog to maximise drivechain life?

...cog or just cog...

😁

He is only refering to the rear cog being even tooth, other sites suggest the chainring should be too (for minimal chain wear)?
-
• #115734
Mechanically speaking, both things are sprockets. The parts that are even numbered will (theoretically) wear less quickly, so you can use either or both depending on what you want to last longer. The chain will wear at the same rate regardless.
His supposition assumes a single-speed drive train and being careful to fit the same way after any disassembly.

@grams Understood thanks!
@Scilly.Suffolk I'd never hear a chainring called a sprocket before, another fine mess I got myself into.

Any recommendations for getting an ebay bike from Leeds to Bristol? Haven't bought it yet, trying to work out feasibility/economics of it before I bid. I asked the courier we use at work and he said £300-£350 so that's a definite no! Are sites like shiply etc. worth looking at? Thanks for any suggestions

• #115737
Two days holiday and ride it 😁
-
• #115738
Shiply (dot com) will probs find someone to do it for about £70

I'm just being a dick, swimming against the tide of accepted common usage.

Would be fun

Thanks, at least a ballpark figure to work with

Nimber is good too.

Having repaired quite a few bikes with the kits bolted on, it's disc brake or nought.
Based on the above, I'll digress, it does go pretty fast.
Well beyond the capabilities of any V-brakes let alone calipers, if the brakes need to be be applied hard.
Oh yeah, with the added torque, the rim will wear prematurely, hence a rebuild will be required way earlier.
That said, I'm in the process of converting a couple of Pashley posties to e-bikes and I'm going disc forks front for now to get them on the road.
Would very likely get the same for the rear depending on how the tests go.

Is swytch not gentle? Plan on fitting to my pompino or kaffenback neither of which have disc brakes. Colleague has kit on brompton no discs, says it is ace.

All good amigo I was over thinking it.
I assume you've seen this?

Even worse on a Brompton in terms of rim wear.
Yeah it's a decent piece of kit but I wouldn't bolt any e-kit to a bike without uprating the brakes if that makes any sense?
That's my personal opinion.
Coincidentally, customer came in today asking us to fit a kit to a Pashley, not even kidding. Flat no.

I have: it's a solid deal and entirely adequate for my needs.
Needless to say I have my heart set on something three times as expensive and a fraction more useful.
I'm "cognisant" blah blah blah...

Useful to know, ta. I could grit up the hub bearings a bit so it slows quicker when I stop soft pedalling? (Just kidding, I never soft pedal).
Else my rigid ss inbred could make it work, but I'd have to commit to 26" wheel then not 700c... option goes live tomorrow so I'll decide on a whim just then no doubt.

All the best!

I'll report back. Might be another 6 months until I get the kit, assuming I am successful in the buyers scrum tomorrow.
Wash your hands with cold water.
