  • … people pressing the train door button before it lights up / sounds.

Do these people think the only thing keeping doors closed, as the train in moving, is everyone’s desire not to fall into the ballast and get chewed up?

Thicker than a diver’s boot, some people.

Sure you could open doors of moving train in the 80's still, probably 90's for London commuter rolling stock.

  • I just like pressing buttons. Downstairs at the Science Museum was ace.

  • Some stock you can press and hold the button and it will activate as soon as the light turns on. I can’t remember which trains that works with these days but in London I think it was most that aren’t the new new London Overground carriages maybe.

  • I think I've read that the psychological imperative for this is not the hope that the door will open early, but signalling to your fellow travellers that you are on it and aware of your role 🤷🏻‍♀️
