  • Very much so. If one more person says "they don't really taste of anything".... They do, they taste like cucumber, and it's fucking rank.

  • This is exactly how I feel about tomatoes, I love cucumber but tomato just tastes like dirty water to me.

I also hate eating at places where people insist on buying a load of stuff to lob in the middle and share, partly because I'm a little picky, but mostly because there's always some people who take the piss and just load up on all the good stuff so there's no equal share whatsoever. Actually had a large christmas meal with mates that was supposed to have the sides served 'family style'. We requested they just put the stuff on the individual plates as we knew people would take too much leaving others with not a lot.

  • I grew up with a load of food issues (ironically, one of them being eating "a load of food") that turned me into a more "picky" eater. For a long time, the only vegetable I would eat was potatoes (don't, racist). To the point where if we had vegetable soup, just standard homemade broth with veg in it, I had to have mine strained. As a teenager, there was a long period of time where a regular evening meal for me would be a whole bag of frozen/oven cooked onion rings (extra points for getting exactly 15 on each of the two baking trays) with several slices of buttered white bread to make butties (various external and family issues meaning a lot of fending for ourselves).

I spent a lot of my 20's getting out of these habits and broadening my tastes. Moving then to South London with someone who grew up in Brixton and has an almost genetic level of Jewish mother feeder traits was very helpful in that regard. It's only really now at 40 I recognise where a lot of the anxieties came from and can be more comfortable in knowing/saying "no, I just don't like that" and it not being some trauma related aversion.

    Cucumber is still fucking rank.
