  • Phew, no need to Boycott the Whalley Range institution.

  • I wish I'd known about that when I was a student living in Whalley Range. It's easier to get a drink in parts of Saudi Arabia.

  • Ha! I did the same double-take

  • An odd thing.
After Levinson Part 1, Cameron had identified 'Lobbying' as the next issue that needed reform.
I presume that lobbying was diverting too much slush fund money away from simple offshoring that was the business that his father had helped pioneer.

Then Cameron 'won' the 2015 election and he had to buy off John Major's b4st4rds/ proto-ERG with the Referendum he was too lazy to work for.
Come the 24th of June 2016, Cameron was gone,
along with any Tory intent to clean up lobbying.

  • If it were simple some country somewhere would have achieved it!

Surely there must be a couple that are at least better than others.

Didn't Iceland jail their banking crisis people? That seems different.

  • Didn't Iceland jail their banking crisis people? That seems different.

The Icelandic financial system was fucked up to a totally different level than RBS / Lehman / Bear though. The guys that went to prison were convicted of embezzlement / fraud / market manipulation not selling dodgy mortgage products. Similar to the Anglo Irish "golden circle" where the CEO was jailed.

Not sure a system that allows its banks to get so out of control can be celebrated.

  • I was watching the Virgin Orbit rocket launch and then Grant Shapps started getting in on the PR stunt and turned it into the vomit comet

  • What did he do?

  • Nah I meant Grant Schapps

  • Ah, sorry. Pass. I remember him and Johnson cosplaying in branded stuff at the G7. Maybe he was trying to persuade everyone it was his idea...

  • Poor lad gets a few extra days off, how will he cope?

  • I was watching the Virgin Orbit rocket launch and then Grant Shapps started getting in on

    yes please

  • Will Hutton has a long piece about the similarities between the Tory right and their American equivalents https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2023/jan/08/americas-taliban-20-republicans-have-the-same-roots-as-our-brexit-spartans It's a bit meh though. He just says they want less government and fewer services, so they wreck everything. If I'd written it I'd try to explain the root cause. Perhaps it's a by-product of the gulf between rich and poor. The rich are just complacent and selfish and want to cut the poor adrift. The attitude is that if you don't have money you don't matter. The haves have a blind spot about the unlucky.

  • There is no bad luck, God hates them because they're somehow sinners and deserve it.

  • Yeah, there's another link I suspect

  • Andrew Bridgen's Twitter is nothing but pure anti-vax content, it's absolutely insane.

  • Speaking of Shapps...
