All useful but also different.
There are two main types of VCA, linear and exponential. This is to do with how they respond to CV envelope shapes. Linear is often better for longer amp envelopes - notes gradually decaying etc - while exponential is more for rapid percussive envelopes, transients, things like that.
The reason I have the Doepfer dual VCA in my rack (the depth only just fits mind) is because they are switchable between lin/exp.
The more I get into this the more I realise its about modulating voices to get movement.
Definitely a huge part of it. And that’s why I use the Øchd so much.
