  • If you enjoyed Wages Of Fear you should try Les Diaboliques by the same director

  • i'll have a go at that tonight

watched ben wheatleys free fire last night
had a loose feel of reservoir dogs, some fun characters, the southern african chap being one, lots of bullets fired

  • Also
Ne Le Dis a Personne - great film based on a Harlan Coben book

Plein Soleil - The first film version of The Talented Mr Ripley with Alain Delon.

  • wow, les diaboliques
i'll say no more for fear of spoiling anything

  • Wow is a pretty fair summation

  • Now TV turned out to be a decent choice for my one month Christmas subscription. Maybe Christmas helped but i only had one or two days where i couldn't find anything i was in the mood for. Rewatched a lot of classics but some notable newer stuff included:

Pig. Nothing new to say other than once i got past the Radavist/Vanlife vibes i really enjoyed it. If anyone is put off by Nic Cage it's definitely a more watchable dialled down performance.

The Outfit. I could see some people not taking to it but i liked it on the basis it was a great looking, small scale period gangster flick with a touch of Usual suspects and Road to Perdition in there. I'm not a theatre goer but with the setup and Rylance it very much felt like a low key theatre production.

Kimi. Good performance from Zoe Kravitz, obvious nods to Hitchcock, The Conversation and Sneakers. Thumbs up from me.

Dune 2022. Liked it a lot more than expected, will make an effort to go see the next one in the cinema (also a bonus Florence Pugh will be in it)

  • "The Menu"

    Favourite film of 2023.

Would have been the my favourite of 2022 as well, I reckon, had I watched it back then.

Dark comedy horror cooking show thriller has to be my new favourite genre.

    Ratatouille meets Saw.

  • in order of disappearance
swedish movie about a fella who's son is murdered and he goes on the revenge trail
nicely done, lots of snow and snow ploughing, people walking around in pyjamas in nice warm, modern, stylish homes, made me feel both warm and chilly in equal measures, the last scene is a weird one, had to watch it twice then read an explanation of it ( not a spoiler )

  • Banshees. Woah. Powerful film. We watched it at home, which is (if I do say so myself) a near cinema experience. Only shame was we talked once or twice, would have been better in silence.

  • Top Gun: Maverick, what utter fucking shite!
But Tom Cruise, jets, bogies, flying through valleys, and a YEAH! finale make it great unplug yer brain shite.

  • I realize one should feel this way but im not gonna lie i was entertained just the same.

  • The plot and other hollywood clichés sucked donkeyballs, but the flying footage was indeed entertaining in the cinema, from the kid's pov that is still in me, apparently.

  • The new Avatar is LONG. Jesus.

  • Triangle of Sadness is decent if a bit overlong too

  • That one scene when it's stormy is definitely a bit much..

  • Galaxy Quest: Star Trek parody, really well done with lots of attention to details and funny.

There seem to be few heartwarming pisstake movies lately... Any suggestions?

  • The menu was very good.

  • It was heartwarming and piss taking in a way too I guess.

  • There seem to be few heartwarming pisstake movies lately... Any
    suggestions?

The one with Lily Allen's husband as Father Christmas is kind of heart-warming with dozens of gory deaths.

  • There’s a Galaxy Quest documentary on prime at the moment which I enjoyed

Lots of the cast back and talking about it including (now academy award winner) Sam Rockwell who they appear to of had about 5 minutes with and he thinks the movie sucks.

  • Seen Athena yesterday. Bloody great film imo, bit disturbing but also wonderfully shot in a technical way, with very long takes.

Excellent and hopefully not prophetic, yet could be. Not really a film for Sunday afternoons.

  • Gone in the Night

Winona Ryder and boyfriend go to an air BnB in the woods
Arriving they find the house already occupied.
End up staying with the double bookers, in the morning the boyfriend is missing.
    Winona tries to find him.

It's no The Vanishing, that's for sure.

    Average, 5/10.
(Bang on 90minutes which is nice)

  • The Ambulance can do one, any more Heat-esque suggestions, old or new. The Den of Thieves suggestion last time round wasn't too far off the mark

  • LA Takedown was remade into Heat so that’s worth a go.

Definitely not Heat but worth a look at To Live and Die in LA and the movie version of Miami Vice (which I really didn’t like on first viewing but on rewatch did enjoy, some really stylish scenes, great soundtrack and main villain).
