RIP Ken. I know of him from the DC shoes skateboarding days.

Frank McGarvey of pancreatic cancer on 1st January. Scottish footballer probably best known for playing with St Mirren, Celtic and Scotland. Only 65.

Had never really given them much attention originally but a chance encounter years ago with an old friend I hadn't been in contact with for a while led me to seeing them in Newcastle and that was the start of some pretty pivotal moments in my life over the next few years so I've always held them in my heart since then. Sad to hear this and never realised how young they are, such a shame.

RIP Ken, no thanks for enabling Monster as a phenomenon but much thanks for the DC Clockers

What ! No. Awww fuck this shit. Such a huge influence on Chelsea. Such a Gent. And he was a great player. Gutted.
Grazie mille.

Obviously no attachement to any of his clubs, but always enjoyed him as a player and manager. Seemed like a lovely bloke, and 58 is really no age. Very sad.

RIP Gianluca. He had some sharp looks.

I fitted a suit for him when I worked in Harvey Nichols years ago. He brought his translator with for the sole reason of telling me that whilst the chest fitted and the arms were perfect, the trousers weren't going to work at all. So, I broke the rules and gave him a pair of trousers from the next size up because the waist size on the original pair didn't equate to just how big his thighs were.
I later sold that suit with the different trouser size to John Terry.
He was the first footballer to wear a suit for post match interviews - everyone else gave monosyllabic responses in a track suit and covered in hair gel. Vialli regarded football as his profession and like many other professionals, he felt the need to wear a suit to work.

Sad. Too young. Nice bloke and a hell of a player.
Encountered him once when Chelsea used to train down at the university grounds at Harlington, so must have been 1998 or 1999(?). I had knackered my ankle pretty badly and he ushered our coach to let me in to see the Chelsea physios (as they were still there just after the football training finished) for them to ice me up and get me on crutches so I could get myself to hospital. I got sent a signed ball also!
I believe he also very politely reminded some of the students that dumping his players' kit on the floor outside the changing rooms wasn't a good idea.

Also been reminded he helped send Bolton down in '98, which kept Everton in the league as well.

Vialli really did live "We are Chelsea and we are style". IMO the person that started the transformation of Chelsea into serial winners before the cash tsunami.

VIALLI! VIALLI! VIALLI!
-
• #9997
A real shame. He always came across as a decent man. A friend spent Christmas in Turin and heard there that Vialli was on his last legs. He did well to last 5 years with the diagnosis that he had.

There aren’t many at Chelsea, I’d tip my hat to. However Gianluca Vialli..
un uomo da rispettare
un calciatore da ammirare

I love this story. Villai was a joy and had a dignity that doesn't always go hand in hand with football.

Aye deffo. Regret not seeing them live when I had the chance, despite being about a decade late.
