I wait and see if this will end the low wage, "low skill" economy.

What baffles me about high wage, high skill economy stuff is what happens to all of the low paid, low skilled jobs?

It’s not retirement. I’m just dropping out for a bit. Like when I was 19.

Targets to clean up the majority of England’s rivers, lakes and coastal waters suffering from a cocktail of agricultural and sewage pollution have been pushed back from 2027 to 2063.

If only we could have foreseeen that industry would lobby so hard to push back environmental regulation and protection .

By which time they’ll all be dead sadly.

The Brexit benefit we were all hoping would be unleashed…..

So we literally gonna have to deal with dirty rivers and beaches for the rest of our lives now (if present course remain unchanged).

Or emigrate, which looks more attractive by the day tbh.

At least we can do that easily without needing to apply for visas...

Some disappear to be replaced by other jobs, some become automated. We no longer have lamplighters but we have callcenters.

But of course most "low skilled" jobs are necessary for society, cleaning, delivering, driving a bus, some care work (most requires several diplomas) and it won't work if everyone goes to "high skilled" jobs.

And as everywhere else, now and throughout history, immigrants often take those jobs and often get no thanks. It'll be interesting to see the effects on social attitudes towards work and immigration now that immigration for some roles is more limited.

But you cannot outreason fabricated feelings of fear and economic competition for housing / any job will do I must work won't end under UK capitalism soon so...

Hard not to equate 'low skilled' with 'language skills' in my estimation that's one of the biggest reason low skills and immigration are linked.

To the point where people wonder why you would do a job that doesn't require you to speak English when just answering a phone is seen as better pay and conditions.

Also prevalent in the building industry where the builder with the best language skills will be worth more money on a team because they can communicate with clients directly.

^This was a major issue in hospitality - why work in a bar (which is hard, and the hours are long) when you could work in a contact centre?

Which mean that we often hired people who spoke close to zero English and they did glass collecting etc until they could “graduate” to being a waiter.

Cha, I came in as a bi lingual callcenter agent which is also "low skilled" per our lovely government, I won't assume people don't pick up the language over time and upskill.

But some hospitality, cleaning and cleaning jobs don't have great hours and great pay for sure.

Certainly in the building game people can do quite well picking up skills and language skills and turning that into decent money.

What I've seen with electricians is the exams get increasingly complex and you have long written exams so there are only a few people who are able to work and train and learn to write well enough.

Well chuffed I sent a Christmas gift to Belgium that took 3 weeks to leave this horrible island and was instantly due €33 in charges on arrival because its worth over €22 (twenty two).

Three wasn't going to remove their free roaming and then oh, look, they did.
So, yeah, Brexit delivering again.

What? When?

Oct last year? Looks like my missus got rolled with the change - they forced her onto a new account so her roaming was spendy. If they try the same thing with me I might look elsewhere. They were easily the best provider with that roaming option but without it they're the same as everyone else.

The key is to be loyal! (Until they bump us loyalies off it too)

That's not what happened to her. I expect they will be expiring all their Go Roam plans over time.
"Loyal and old customer" - I'm pretty sure she joined with me, which was a few years ago now. Although I was using PAYG 3 SIM so maybe we've not been with them long enough. Guess I need to check my bill from them.
