  • Been a while

Didn’t really ride a bike last year, but keen to make the effort to try and get the love back this year, coz bikes are pretty good.

As I had the time I did a little shed audit yesterday to see what needed doing to what. Hopefully then I’ll use this thread as a bit of diary to get back into it, as reading and enjoying the forum has kept the cinders warm.

  • I've been in a similar place many times. I find that taking breaks is necessary and fine, but also that cycling a bit increases the chances of getting the bug again :)
Which bike are you gonna start with? You sold the flouro Rourke? and what sort of riding?

  • Trainbiek

Now had a mix of ultegra and 105 on it and I’d in full working condition. I actually did a ride for ‘Movember’ on this with the local cricket club, which while not awful from an enjoying riding a bike point of view, did remind me about cat herding and other cyclists.

East Lothian and Bostock sausage rolls are both beautiful beautiful things, I had missed them. I had missed this bike as well, it’s a beast and the paint work has matured wonderfully. Just needs a front wheel true and a cambium refitted as I appear to have broken another one….

  • Funny isn’t it, I agree on the breaks being necessary and fine.

This one was just a long one and enforced in many ways, but keen to see if the bug wants to bite again now

Good question on which bike to start with, I’d like to start with the MTB, but prolly not the time to get down to GT or Inners, so will look at short road rides first and then some pentlands MTB Rideout stuff I think. (And there is always Hillz up here)

Will have to fit it in around weekend sports as well, which I think will make cycling more fun, as opposed to a sporting thing.

Sick Fadez Rourke did go, was a lockdown thing and fun, but other Rourke is the one!

  • Fastline

I think the last time I had this “on here” it was SS, but now it’s 72” and has been my winter fixed up here (as I had the Flyer down south for commuting & Hillz)

I gave this a bit of a refresh in 2019, so still in good condition. New mudguards need a fettle, rear wheel is a bit out of tru, chain is slack and oddly the brake hoods are a different levels on the bars, who knows.

Hopefully of dusting it off and doing HDIJ on it, just need the diary to converge and for me not to break anything on it….will use this for some short warm up rides I think.

  • Rourke

Covered in dust, looks like a mess and all the batteries are as flat as the tyres. Feel a bit shit about it as it’s such a lovely bike and fuck, it’s light.

Reckon I’ll clean it up, get it going and then look after it until the summer comes back to Scotland.

  • Superfly

Another light one. Loved riding this thing and this was the one that caused the most flutters.

Had new forks in 2020 after Inners and me destroyed the Reba WC’s that were on there. Rekons at 130 I think. Rear tubeless has a leak so will sort, turn the forks around to the front brake routing isn’t fucked and clean all the spiders off it.

I feel like I’m looking forwards to throwing this down some shallow trails, slowly….

Then upgrade to something a bit more traily/dc, like an Izzo and have some bigger days out

  • I like all three of those, but the Rourke, that’s a bit special.

Edit: bloody four now, my comment referred to road bikes.

  • its mad that we have same gravel bike

  • Cheers, yeah I’ve been really lucky with that one and the bits that it’s got on it now. Probably it’s best iteration, when looked after

  • Trainbiek is undefinable to mortals, it appears to us as we want to see it, we will never know it’s true form.

  • Frames

Spacebiek - went down on a wet manhole cover and popped the DT out, needs rebonded when I get it down to Matt & Caren

A.E.Elsegood - lovely thing, would love to get back into cycling and then commit to making this into a mean modern touring thing

Rourke SS - 1984 Rourke homebrew path track thing I don’t remember buying. Covered in hammerite, will prob sell

I still have the Intercity track bike and Muddy Fox down south as well, which I’ll document when I’m there next week

The Flyer is out on permanent loan so it lives it’s best sweet fixeh lyfe

  • A E Elsegood looks like a smart Carlton Flyer with the flyer lugs and wrap round seat stays that just meet in the middle....

  • I can see that, yeah the seat stays just meet

Photo set from back in the day & thread here that have more photos and more Elsegoods!

  • with the local cricket club

Got to love the optimism of certain Scots.

  • 13 signed up

3 made it to the start

    1 finished

24 met us at the pub

  • I more meant trying to play cricket in that climate. Although you're east coast I think, so slightly drier.

  • And if you mean the weather

League Managed 17 out of 17 games this season

    What climate crisis?

  • My bad

Realised a tad late, it was a dry old season over here for sure.

Even the games in Fife were dry, awful, but dry

  • Thanks for the links :). Trying to think if I was on lfgss 9 years ago!

  • One bike to rule them all.
