Looking at a set of mudguards for the new winter commuter.
SKS longboards were recommended, but appear to be out of stock everywhere in 45c until mid January.
What are similar full length and sturdy options in the £20-45 range?
These look really good too, anything I’m missing about them? Would these suit the build (I had black ones in mind but the reflective elements sound wise for commuting in winter)

i mounted a lot of pelago mudguards recently and they are long and have great coverage, also quite cheap and easy to install.
if you dont have threads in the mounting points you would need a little bit more hardware though -

Got impatient and ordered the SKS ones above. Didn’t want wait 6 weeks and miss loads of potential cycling.

Still a very good choice, i find the SKS are great mudguards, i don't understand the hate for them honestly

Just wondering how your getting on with the PDW Poncho’s a month on?
My rear Pdw snapped fully in half yesterday. They’re probably 4yrs old and been on a few bikes as well as squeezed cut and glued to fit in areas probably too small for a 37mm guard to fit so don’t feel too aggrieved.
My initial thought had been to just replace but only really need a rear and as price is now £110 per set that thought changed rather quickly.
Poncho’s might fit the bill nicely? -

Yeah they're good. Not as lovely or sturdy as the metal ones and the rear stays aren't as neat. Time will tell how tough they are, but I'd recommend for the price.

Ok thanks for that, they’ll go on the list for consideration.

Any experience using the kinesis full fenders with caliper brakes on a road bike with mounts but reasonably tight clearances? Would I be better off with pdw full metals?

hey there, does someone have any experience with swapping wheels with different sizes and how this works with velo orange guards? how serious are their tire-width recommendations?
so far i am using bluemels in 50mm width. in the summer there are 32 or 38mm wide 700c tires underneath. rather tight, slicks mostly. thats great although it looks slightly dorky because the guards are so much wider than the tires.
for bad weather, winter, gravelrides etc. i swap in a different wheelset with 650B rims and 47mm tires. WTB Venture, sendero, in the future there will be some vittoria terrenos.so far the tight setup that cleared the slicks worked good as a mud-capable setup for the 650b tires. Very happy with the fitment.
However i am decidedly unhappy with the longevity of the guards. every 1 to 2 years the become brittle and something breaks somewhere and i've spent enough money on 20-30 euro sets so that I could have bought one set of good ones in the same time ...i am hoping that 50 or 52mm metal guards are suitable for the same compromise. has anyone got experience with this? :)

How wide a mudguard can you fit?
I've had 26x2.15" and 650bx42 fit under the same 60mm bluemels mudguards. -
• #5487
not more than 50 or 52mm i reckon. at least if 700c wheels still fit underneath height-wise

How compatible will a mudguard for a 700c hybrid wheel be with a 26” mountain bike? Guessing not wide enough?

Im running 700x37 with not much clearance what's my best mudguard option? Thanks.
-
• #5490
700x35 tires
-
• #5491
This would be the correct option.
Turns out sks make a bewildering array of guards so there's several options to choose from.

My SKS bluemels have just snapped.
What do I want to replace them with - disc brakes, no eyelets (using runner things), 35mm max tyre -

Did you have some fibre washers at the bolt points? If not just buy Blumels again and use fibre washers?
-
• #5494
I have got some spare brand new matte black bluemels, 700c 35mm
Anyone interested? -

I’ve bought a set of 2nd hand mudguards which are missing half their R Clips, on the off chance that anyone has 2 can I buy them before forking out for a whole set of new ones?

Ah balls. Getting over there is going to be difficult. Even though I'm SE.
I'll grab a pair elsewhere/look in the shed. -

what's the opinion on honjo vs velo orange?
and will a rolled mudguard help with spray from the front wheel onto feet?

will a rolled mudguard help with spray from the front wheel onto feet?
That’s more to do with length I think, and the addition of a decent flap will help the most.
Mudguards with rolled edges are a bit stiffer / less likely to crack from the edge I think
You made me Google your forum name (thank you for that!), shame on me I'm french and didn't know "Le Terrible"
