Thanks! I’ve been having issues with colours lately. Not sure what’s going on.

Not a bad thing!

Im really struggling how to explain this in a google search.
How do I calculate how many variants I can make of a pattern in a 4x4 square. With a grid of 16 boxes how many patterns can I make with 2 colours.
Whats the term Im looking for, Variance? If someone could toddler explain or at least provide the formula too that would really help me.

Simple answer; there are 216 (65,536) ways to make a 4×4 grid have its cells in one of two possible states. It's just a pictorial representation of a 16 bit binary number.
Complex answer; what do you mean by pattern? There are 4 rotational positions and 4 mirror planes which make patterns which are different in a fixed address space be the same topologically.

1000 = 32766is just
0001

0001 = 4097flipped about the vertical mid plane or rotated 180°
ETA: Also, to a mathematician, this is the same question as was asked and answered a couple of days ago 🙂

To follow up on previous question: Success with 4mm diam brass rod - tight enough fit I didn't bother with glue. Hopefully sufficient to stop CDs falling off.

I have lost the power cable for a Denon M39 and want to know if I can use another spare cable I have that fits.

I also have this 5a cable too.
I’m sure it’s one of these two, but in the chaos of moving house the plug was separated from the system

I'd say yes. Just looks like a standard cable and input is 230V.

To work out the right fuse P / V = I
In your case 70 / 230 = 0.3 so a 1A fuse would be best. 3 or 5 will also work.
Edit ↓ on reflection, taking transformer inrush into account, perhaps 3A might be best bleedin’ amateur hour innit

• #115612
70W/230±10V≈0.3A current draw from the mains, give or take a bit of power factor and transformer inrush 3A fuse is still going to be plenty.

Brilliant. Many thanks all

Cheers. I think I'll play the patience game and see if anything turn up second hand that's a bit more budget friendly at the time being. Does anybody have tried both microshift and dia compe bar ends in friction?

Wiggle were selling microshift bar end shifters for peanuts a few weeks ago, might be worth a look.
I used Silver Shifters / Did Compe bar ends for years and liked them at the time, but now I pretty much only use Microshift. They're shorter, nice shape, easy to use (they have lots of variants now so you don't have to file away any of the mount, or be restricted to certain parts) and don't come loose (or the plastic washer doesn't snap like It can do on the DC/Silver Shifter type). They're also Black all over which suits my bikes a lot better.

Thanks! I have a microshift thumbie and am pretty happy with it, so perhaps biased in that affect. I have found distributor locally and will try to message them after new year's to see if bar end mount could be sourced separately. Love the idea that you could just move shifter between mounts without buying seperate shifters entirely. But I guess we will see how doable that is.

After faffing about with soldering / fixing a kids electric toy I feel the time has come to get one of those electrics third hand things.
I don't want to spend lots on it, but equally I don't want to get one and then after think I wish it had a magnifying glass or an extra hand.
Can anyone recommend what is a useful size / number of features for a very occasional tinkerer?

Five hands seems excessive. I soldered up a broken Xmas toy yesterday, two hands was enough. Good lighting and magnification are important too, but they can be separate units.

Depends a bit on what you're working on, but for circuit boards I think I'd start with a silicone solder mat which stops the board from sliding around.

Cheers.
The Matrix-like thing seemed a bit much to me, but normally I'm just bodging stuff together using random bits of whatever to hold things down.
I like the idea of the silicone mat, but really need something that can hold a part in place.

Is £42 to get this printed A1 200gsm matt a reasonable quote? Seems a bit pricey to me.

I might have a basic one going spare. If I can find it over the weekend, I'm happy to throw it in the post just to get you going. Have a feeling I have doubled up on a bunch of stuff.

Cheers. That'd be cool if you can, but no worries if you can't.

That’s a £15-£20 job (they do 170 or 230gsm) where I live in Cambridge. Ldn tax shouldn’t be as much as 100%. Have another Google.
Before I unsuccessfully trudge through YouTube.
I have iPad mini.. long-forgotten passcode (4-digit).. any way to reset/delete or circumvent the security to gain access?
I’ve only a work-supplied laptop so I can’t install iTunes or any 3rd party software to help. iPad does not appear on my Apple ID devices etc. No clue what version of IOS it’s running.
Any hope or do I need to make a trip to the indoor market and pay somebody to do it for me?
