My household insurance policy covers me for £5 million personal liability. I think even the cheapest contents insurance will cover you for £2 million. Why join an organisation for this when you probably already have it?
You may be right. I will check my household policy - especially for exclusions, eg 'dangerous activity'.
However not all bike riders have household policies and not all of those who have are capable of understanding what's covered and what isn't. I'm not at all sure that I am myself.
As mentioned above, I had a look round when my BC membership was coming to an end.
I was only really interested in the public liability insurance, but I found that most of the so called 'insurers'were really just brokers all trying to flog the same policy. And that policy had a limit of £2 million for that aspect of cover. In these inflationary times I don't think that's adequate - a perfectly ordinary house in NW10 is likely to cost £1.5m, and it would be quite possible to knock some one over and discover you've ruined the career of a famous musician (Tradgedy at Law, mentioned above).
So my point is that this cover is the most vital part of the policy- so you need to be satisfied in your own mind that this aspect is adequate.
