Ah it’s that wierdly green-tinged silver. I have a Condor 853 MTB in the same colour. I’m told that was made by Mr Yates.
It certainly looks very similar to other frames of his, in particular the very minimal fillets and the shot-in stays.

I'm committing sins at either end.
Woah! Never seen one of those.

Mmm. What's that? A drill and a hacksaw? For a simple bike build? Is everything going okay?

No. No it isn't.

That escalated quickly

In matters of patience, I am incorrigible. What I should learn is don't fit star nuts in the front room, when you should be tiling a bathroom but the resident philistine wants you to witness his You Tube gawping. Especially if you can't find a 1 inch setting tool. Think I'm going to regroup once the holidays are over.

How did you go from a wonky(?) starfangled nut to this though?
-
• #34
A fine question. Not wonky, threaded. I have devised a solution, but I'm going to walk away for a few days.

Lovely looking bike, but what a shitter! At least you didn’t get a socket stuck down your steerer, having used one and an extension bar to fit the star nut. Who on earth would do such a stupid thing…

Partial redemption.

Now I'm back a the start, the initial problem can be seen; there isn't quite enough depth inside the extension to accommodate the star nut. Answers on a postcard.

Is getting the fork steerer replaced or extended by a frame builder an option? Would be less dodgy than this
-
• #40
That looks like a great option.

Used one for a while in 1 1/8” flavour, didn't die

Bit of progress. Had been wavering over a set of 180mm, but they were just too expensive, so these bargain 175mms will do. £40 with TIME pedals still attached.

So glad this found a home and even got a thread! What happened to the carbon fork it was listed with?

I still have them. I prefer a straight blade, and you'll like this, I felt the steel ones would be 'safer'. Then I got stubborn when they didn't fit and opted for belligerence over front teeth.

Crankset. Bosh. Little bit of cable fettling and will be practically rideable.

Probably should. Might.

Lovely bike. It must be nigh on impossible finding secondhand forks when you require that length steerer

Man I love this! Nice build and great color

Thanks peeps. Left a little room for future tinkering, but pretty happy with it. The colour is really nice in person. It's a fraction short for me, but feels very much like a keeper.
Only real snag is single bottle cage mount. Tried the VO cage strap things, but they were poor with the current cage.
Once I've ironed out these few issues think it'll actually come together quite nicely. Silver cranks to bring out the slight green of the frame. Waiting on step-down ferrules.
