What’s your point?
[edit: unless someone else replies, I shall never know]

Free to partake in and cost to put on are obviously not the same thing.

Dunwich Dynamo?

• #306
That’s exactly why I stopped doing the Dunwich Dynamo.

As mentioned above, I had a look round when my BC membership was coming to an end.
I was only really interested in the public liability insurance, but I found that most of the so called 'insurers'were really just brokers all trying to flog the same policy. And that policy had a limit of £2 million for that aspect of cover. In these inflationary times I don't think that's adequate - a perfectly ordinary house in NW10 is likely to cost £1.5m, and it would be quite possible to knock some one over and discover you've ruined the career of a famous musician (Tradgedy at Law, mentioned above).
So my point is that this cover is the most vital part of the policy- so you need to be satisfied in your own mind that this aspect is adequate.

If you don’t pay anything for rides, you have no rights and get treated like a commodity.
Rubbish! If you don't pay for something you're not a commodity.

My household insurance policy covers me for £5 million personal liability. I think even the cheapest contents insurance will cover you for £2 million. Why join an organisation for this when you probably already have it?

What rights do I give up by joining a free ride?
-
• #311
Depends which feeder ride you used
-
• #312
The right to have people hum a Beatles song at you.
-
• #313
It isn’t as important as insurance companies would have you believe.

Who organises the Dunwich Dynamo?
-
• #315
I can’t see any liability on any “organisers “ there

Dibble has good point - why do you think the organisers would be liable for the health problems of the participants?
Do you think cycling event organisers' duty of care goes as far as requiring health checks on entrants? If that's the case we might as well give up trying to organise anything.

This thread seems kind of like BC now have Russian troll PR support

Aside from all this mind-numbing low-rent community cycling beef does anyone have an update on BC's consideration of its Shell sponsorship, ie at the club or AGM level?

You may be right. I will check my household policy - especially for exclusions, eg 'dangerous activity'.
However not all bike riders have household policies and not all of those who have are capable of understanding what's covered and what isn't. I'm not at all sure that I am myself.

Do you think there'll be some sort of rationing kick-back for BC members if it comes to that?
I can picture the Shell/BC liaison committee discussing the guidance for it now...
-
• #323
and Shell should be given our full support
Haaahaha yeah because they really need it (or care about it). You're really ramping this up now

I've also heard that water scarcity is going to become a much bigger problem so I'd like to throw my support behind Nestlé.

lots of people going hungry so why aren't people on their doorsteps every evening clapping for monsanto is my question
Can we feed families to these feeder rides? For the hungry cyclist?
