  • Just a warning to not order from Astucas. Sadly it seems the Google reviews are correct. I ordered something and now no contact. Looks like I'll have to contact my bank to claim refund on CC.

  • You could just head over there and get your money back the old fashioned way.

  • In Germany the other week and popped into a Decathlon. Bit surprised that this bag is £139.99 in the UK. Brexit?

Update - my mistake. The real UK equivalent is £99.99. Read the bl00dy label properly!!

  • Weight weenies look away.

Got a (boo-hiss) motorcycle wild camping thing lined up in 2 weeks. Trying to get pack weight to an acceptable level.

The other night in the army bivi I was absolutely roasting. Inside the Helios EV 300 down bag it was just way too warm. But, at 800g I don’t want anything heavier for less insulation. It was on a hillside so I expected a cool breeze overnight, otherwise I may have just slept on top.

Bought this today. At £29 it’s worth a punt.

Same weight (actually 20g heavier: on the scales 820g vs 800g) but synthetic so no more loose feathers.

Was thinking to just use the Snugpak jungle bag. Although the snugpak compresses a bit smaller, I am sure my old version weighs over 1kg when I weighed it.

Anyway, at £29 it might be worth a punt for others who don’t mind 820g for a 2-season synthetic.

  • Looking for an inflatable pillow (side sleeper if that makes a difference). Anyone use this decathlon one?

    https://www.decathlon.co.uk/p/inflatable-travel-pillow-grey/_/R-p-311258

  • I've got one, I don't love it but I'm pretty particular with my pillows at home, I haven't used any other inflatables to compare it to either.

  • I use thermarest neo air xite but you really want a pillow that will make a good difference. I use sea 2 summit one.

  • As a side sleeper/wriggler who likes their comforts, I've tried:
*Decathlon "Air basic" - probably the second best to date. Cheap, light, only a mostly disappointing night's sleep.
*Trekology - gave up on this very quickly.
Klymit Cush - too slim as a single-ply, wouldn't stay put when folded up for more thickness.
*Sea to Summit Aeros Premium (large) - the current option, and best to date. Appreciably thicker than all the others, and the soft fleecy covering is nice.

But frankly, aren't all camping pillows a bit pony?

  • I hate travel pillows. I’d sooner roll up the jacket to use with a tiny bit of foam on top.

  • If you're not sleeping on the dirt with your helmet still on you're doing it wrong.

(actually I normally roll up clothes and the missus gets the decathon pillow)

  • Thoughts on this Big Agnes down bag for £160 in the Sigma sale. I've been after a lightweight bag for a while but can't find many reviews of this.

  • 850 fill is decent. Says 4.4C rating. 500g is light but not uber light. But without spending a lot more you wont do much better, unless you go second hand.
With some clothes and an insulated jacket as a quilt it'll go a long way. I think it's a reasonable buy.
Big Agnes are a reputable outdoor.brand.

  • Thanks for the reply and thoughts 👍

  • As a side sleeper i found the nemo fillo to be a great pillow for bikepacking.

  • Can definitely vouch for this.

Still regularly using the same criterion ultralight down bag I bought about 7 years ago.
Been washed maybe 4 times and I don't think it's lost much efficiency in that time.

Been down to -5 ambient (on the ground, under a tarp) a few times. Measured the outside of the bag at -2 in the hammock the other night, and still felt warm inside.

I used to have different bags for different seasons and stuff but settled on using this for everything.

  • Anyone have any experience of the brand ‘Zastrugi’ and their sleeping bags? Only sold on PlanetX but seem they could be decent?

  • For anyone else who is keen on the Big Agnes bag from Sigma, use code SALE15 to get it for £160

  • That's a good idea, one corner of the tarp tied to the bike.

  • Accidentally launched a peg to the moon in the middle of the night.

  • In the end I went for a Mountain Hardwear one for £180 (10% code in newsletter sign-up)

    https://www.mountainhardwear.co.uk/products/phantom-alpine%E2%84%A2-30f-1c-sleeping-bag

  • Ended up sending the Big Agnes bag back, was the Long version but it was too short for me at 6’2”

  • The mountain hardwear one arrived, seems nice. Regular fits me at 6ft so I'd imagine you'd be fine in the long.

  • Mountain Hardwear one does look tidy but might stick with cheap quilt and jacket for now (or at least until refunded for the Big Agnes!!)
