Campagnolo T47 Pro-Tech BB cups compatibility

I'd like to know if I can use the Campagnolo Pro-Tech BB cups - intended for Ekar - with a Super Record crankset.

I'm led to believe Ekar and Super Record are both Ultra-Torque, but it's unclear whether this is a standard (same spacing etc) or just a reference to the hearth joint design.

Does anyone have any experience with this?

You will need both ProTech cups and ProTech bearings - the bearings are different - but yes, the Ekar ProTech bearings will fit in place of the SR bearings and will then mate correctly with the ProTech cups.

You will have slightly higher rotational resistance because SR bearings are CULT system and run on an oil film, wheras Ekar uses a standard steel-on-steel bearing with grease lubrication, plus the additional seals can drag more initially, than the lip seals used in the standard UT arrangement.

The sealing on ProTech is certainly more robust but it's arguable whether in road applications, compared to the standard SR arrangement, that is of great advantage because the CULT bearing system is extremely wear resistant (albeit at a cost ...)

In practical terms, are the bearing dimensions different, to your knowledge?

This thread suggests the cups and bearings all have different dimensions from pro-tech compared to ultra-torque. Unfortunately I don't think that rideworks BB will work properly.

I have a problem with clearance - a steel T47 road frame, wanting to run Super record mechanical disc group with all cables running past the BB internally. I got an Enduro branded BB and the cups are good for SR, but the aluminum sleeve is far too large diameter to let the cables pass without bad kinks and pressure impacting on shift performance. Can't run cups without a sleeve or the BB spindle and cables will get trashed from rubbing in no time.

I'm still looking, but it does look like UT T47 campy BB's are becoming available, but I still can't find information on the dimensions of the delrin sleeve they come with (if they come with one at all).

Thanks for sharing that @user152220. I didn’t know Campag were now making one for standard Ultra-Torque.

I would say it’s safe to assume it uses the Campag standard sleeve as that’s what’s used on all the other BB cup variations. From experience, this fits closely around the spindle, so hopefully it will give you the clearance you need.
