Are Speedys about 50% more expensive than they were 5 years ago?
Was talking watches with a colleague and said moonwatches are about £4k, then looked them upo and they are £6.5k!
(Hang on, are moonwatches different to Speedmasters?)

I’ve been left this watch. It was my uncle’s until he died in 2009, since when my aunt has been wearing it. She passed away in September and now it’s mine, so it has sentimental value.
It’s currently with the solicitors but is apparently working. The crystal is badly scratched and needs replacing and it could do with a service. Any suggestions?

Paging @ejay2.0, he is the forum Omega expert and can certainly point you to a reputable service agent.
Crystal looks like it could possibly be buffed clean with minimal effort (IANAE, and my experience with damaged crystals are on cheap watches that have come clean(er) with toothpaste and a cloth)

Moonwatches are a subset of Speedmasters. Generally it refers to the “Professional” models with the asymmetric case that has crown guards and twisted lugs. Basically, the style of Speedmaster that went to the moon.
The basic Moonwatch got a large price hike when they went to the current model about 2 years ago, or whenever it was. This was mostly because they “upgraded”* the movement to the 3861 which added the coaxial escapement and their Master Chronometer certification. Or at least, that was the justification.
*In quote marks because some people felt it was now too far removed from the original Moonwatch movements

I paid £3,200 for mine IIRC.

Yeah, list was around £3k no more than about five years ago. And you could probably get a discount without too much trouble.
The strength of the Swiss franc has a lot to do with it though.

I got a letter which entitles me to a free service with Omega (I bought mine from the Regents St Omega), which they assured me was worth around £500. I have absolutely no idea whether that was or is true, but they also did me decent deals on the rallye strap and clasp, both of which I think really suit the watch far better than the bracelet (in my opinion), so over all I was very happy.

I paid $2750 for my 3570.50 without box/papers. And that was only 2019. At least a grand more now. Those were the days...

Or to put another way, every moonwatch is a speedmaster , but not every speedmaster is a moonwatch.

What’s the forum consensus on strap colour with a blue dial? Not convinced black works and certainly not this style with the rectangular cut outs but not sure if blue that doesn’t match exactly will be any better?
The Steviostraps Para Canvas in blue is one I fancy already having the green version.
Any blue straps in rubber I should be looking out for in the Xmas sales?

They're one of the few companies that have elegantly captured that German car / oven dial aesthetic.
