  • I bought a Samsung 4-door (French style) fridge freezer nearly two years ago and recently it started sounding like an angry sewing machine. I messaged Samsung online help, they got a local person to come check it, and diagnosed as a faulty compressor, luckily it's under warranty.

Samsung messaged me a few days later to say they can't repair it, and no like-for-like replacement was available so they offered the closest alternative. The one we're getting as a replacement costs twice as much as the one we bought, I'd say that's pretty good customer service! Would recommend.

  • Can anyone point me in the direction of a decent guide for dismantling and cleaning a Dyson V6? The battery in mine now lasts about 30 seconds so want to see if cleaning it makes any difference.

  • @aggi Cleaning will help, but if you've owned since new, it is definitely in need of a battery change.
£25-30 for an after market larger battery Amazon, a couple of screws to change.
They often come with a replacement filters.

Transforms it back to new/better than new.

    Something like this: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Replacement-Phillips-screwdriver-pre-filter-post-filter/dp/B09YV2LV43/ref=sr_1_11?crid=3PULSYS55JKP&keywords=dyson%2Bv6%2Bbattery&qid=1671637581&sprefix=dyson%2Bv6%2Bbattery%2Caps%2C74&sr=8-11&th=1

  • Miele, what a shit show. One half of my hob stopped working around 5 weeks ago so I made a service appointment on their website.
First appointment got cancelled because they were waiting for parts, on the day of the second appointment the guy called me that his van broke down, on the day of the third appointment he called me that his rental van has 2 punctures. Now finally somebody managed to show up, without parts though.
Turns out there is "nothing wrong" with it just needs the controller board replaced which is a bit over £900 with labour, lol.
Build seemed very flimsy on the inside without any heat sinks like I have seen with other models.
Shame to trash it after barely 4 years of use.

  • Finally purchased the 3 piece Kitchenaid pasta attachment. Here's to 2023

  • I guess that’s one way of heating tortillas…

  • "Shame to trash it after barely 4 years of use."
isn't it covered by consumer protection rules then?
or did voting for no forins and real pint glasses remove that protection?

  • Hah, just got the bill, £150 to look at it and confirm it's broken. Took them over a month to come around but the bill arrived the same day.

  • probably not since I bought it as an ex display model. Wasn't the protection only 2 years?

  • quick google says up to 6 years but 'it depends'

  • 'it depends'

probably wouldn't cover it since I am not the first owner and didn't buy it from Miele.

  • I remember how my dad was amused that I bought a French product when I got a De Dietrich hob over 23 years ago. Just for fun I took it out today and it still works great and the surface looks way better with 20 years of use.

  • I found the aftermarket battery I bought better than the original in our V6. IME Dysons need to be cleaned properly to work properly. The red plastic guard/filter bit is a cunt to get off and on to clean out the cyclone mouldings.

  • Dysons need to be cleaned properly to work properly.

Yeah. Filter needs doing every three / four weeks. Periodically blast the whole thing out with compressed air every year or so.

  • Cheers. I got the one that @Acliff linked to and it works fine (although I suspect it's claim of triple the capacity is somewhat exaggerated).

Followed a few YouTube videos on cleaning it (although one was terrible), there was a lot of brick dust in there!

    Now works fine again

  • Did you get round to doing this? I'm about to take mine apart and give it a good clean and new filter. I ordered a new Dyson battery for mine as it was £60 and if it gives me another five years service seems worth it.

  • Yep, see above. Battery I got was about £30 with a filter.

Main issue I had was getting the big, conical filter off. Was easier to do if you separated it from the motor first but still needed quite a bit of force compared to what the videos showed.

  • FWIW I have a Bora recirculating hob and think it’s great. We could not duct it out as the floor is solid concrete…tbh if I was charring steaks all of the time then okay, but for 90% of what we cook on the hob (Pasta, browning mince, browning Veg etc then it’s fine). It’s quiet and clean…

  • Bought a £40 air fryer to see what the fuss is about.
    Consider me impressed.

  • Freezer blew up this evening. So that's been a fun few hours trying pull it out to unplug and get the fuse sockets back on.

So is there anything special about freezers?

For our outdoors one I had to make sure it was an outdoors one. But for indoors I guess it's just what's engery efficient and fits in the hole, right?

Are there any providers people would recommend or avoid?

  • This one from CDA looks like a good choice on balance.
    https://buywiseappliances.co.uk/refrigeration/freezers/built-in-1-door-freezer-less-than-90cm-height.html?

Our dimensions are 56cm W x 55cm D and most of the ones I can see on AO look a bit stingy for those dimensions. Eg 91-93 vs 100l for the less pricy options.

However, I've never heard of CDA. It's sounds like something cyclest would obsess over to get some extra marginal gainz. Are they any good?

    Cheers

  • Would never buy anything CDA. Fridge freezer from them and the freezer stopped working in warranty. CDA said they no longer made the part needed to fix. Their genuine offer to me to make it right was 40% off a brand new one.

  • Liebherr make nice fridges and freezers. Otherwise look for what fits the space, what capacity, energy rating and whatever other features you would want (ice box, plumbed water etc...)

  • Cheers.

That was helpful. We found a Indesit one on eBay with cosmetic damage to the front of the door which has saved £100 or so. They're part of hotpoint/whirlpool so cheaper end but still branded.

Only a year manufacturers' warranty, but you'd hope a main brand freezer should be fine. It's not like a dishwasher or washing machine with loads of parts.

TBH once you put in all our various dimensions, built-in requirements, and discount the sub-99l ones there's not tonnes of choice anyway. £280 feels more sensible than >£500 for Nef/Bosch right now. It's not like there are loads of features on a stand alone freezer.

  • Samsung 4-door (French style) fridge freezer

I was just looking at these.

On paper, they have all the capacity - how does that translate in the real world? Is it all usable, or is it just a lot of useless space inside?

I'm also looking at the american door versions.
