The cognitive dissonance of many Daily Mail readers is incredible though. One particular relative - who vehemently clapped for these nurses, and has had extensive NHS care over the last two years, with not a bad word to say about his treatment - is frothing at the mouth at their "greed" for wanting a payrise, "terrible mismanagement" of NHS facilities, and "bloody unions", so much so that he's bought himself private healthcare, whilst fully aware that in doing so further increases the chances of the NHS being destroyed further.
My favourite quote from him once was "I know the Daily Mail is awful, but I like reading it" He really didn't like me comparing that to a drug addiction.

Front cover of the Mail today is pure gammon nurse-hate. Not that many moons ago those same (overworked, understaffed, underpaid) nurses were "OUR NHS HEROES".
