This is going to make all the combi conversions that removed water tanks a much more expensive job as gas is phased out and ASHP become "mandatory".

No its not as you'd need to upgrade the old cylinder anyway. ASPH isn't the total way forward they are selling it as right now and I also think there will be a black market in folk fitting gas anyway after it stopped. I mean in 7 years gas boilers are banned, I just cant see that happening.

Banned from new installations though, right? As in new connections to the gas grid.

Anyone with one already can replace with like for like when the existing croaks until space year 2035 IIRC anyway.

There's lots of trials with hydrogen blending in the gas going on right now which i think eventually will be full hydrogen once the price comes down although prices never come down they only stay up. I see that as better alternative than the ASHP that they are currently pushing hugely.

I get giddy thinking about all the work required to do it on our gaff. Probably best done in a full renovation.

I thought wholesale piping hydrogen wasn't going to work with our leaky gas mains due to the smaller molecule so even more leaks? I suppose they could dig up all the roads.

It’s like EPC ratings and old houses. They want to push legislation to force people to make the houses airtight and super well insulated, but it’s literally it possible for a huge proportion of existing houses in the UK.

Don’t get me wrong, I deffo want more efficient houses etc, I just wish the well meaning legislators had a fucking clue.

You also need a bigger hot water tank with a heat pump as to make it efficient you only want to heat the water to 40-45 degree so you mix less cold with it when having a shower. Ours is 500 litres. It’s massive.

And full of some pretty nasty bugs? Thought 60 was the minimum

Immersion brings it up to 60 degrees once a week to poach the bugs

There's an awful lot of extra pipe running to do though is my point. Having my tank replaced like for like was a wheeze. New pipework I've had installed less so.

Has anyone installed insulation internally on an external wall? Our box room at the back is coooooold with two external walls.

Trying to get some quotes and one plasterer has suggested adding 3x2 batons to the wall and using insulation and normal plaster board rather than using insulated plaster board. Wondered if someone has had this done and can feedback?

Someone on here ( @airhead maybe?) was talking about a company that will take CAD files and turn them into actual bits of wood, on a consumer basis.
I need to fit a cupboard into a tall thin space and I reckon designing my own unit is probably the best way forward…

I would do a bit of your own research as to what method will work best and what to use, i get a feeling that most plasterer’s will not be up to date on what products are out there and how to use them, if you mention interstitial and cold bridging and they give you a blank look you need to find somebody else to do the job.

Our loft toilet is running intermittently. The slightly odd part is that it seems to be occasionally triggered by the 1st floor bathroom water use.
Why would this be?

Your fill valve is scaled up or the washer has perished and doesn't seal properly sometimes. Changes in pressure jiggle it. I'd swap it for a new one.

It wasn't me! I do recall seeing it mentioned though. I know there are a few people around doing it. Bit brain dead at the moment though so can't remember any.

My research so far makes it more confusing as no one can give you a definite answer. The room in question is an upstairs box room with 2 external walls. I'm in the middle of redecorating and thought lets make it warmer. Tbh the more I think about it maybe replacing the window, upgrading the radiator, checking loft and floor insulation and installing cork flooring may be more than enough
